Having so many rivers and lakes around here i could find some nice rock for free, but Marco rocks has some great stuff. This one, as a matter of fact, looks exactly like the rock currently in my tank.

a tip for you... check reef central on tues nights. Marco Rocks has a "cherry pick" contest and you pay $.99 + shipping for the scape.

I have won 1 scape from them and will enter again at a later date (ps... paypal express will make it quicker)

you will still need to wash it off. I didn't and got powder all over the tank.

I think its alot of fun finding my own rocks and stuff. Ive found some nice driftwood at the river down the road from my apartment.

I have seen tanks with rocks/minerals which I know to be toxic in them, but the water was clear. Water clarity has nothing to do with dissolved minerals.

I think that you are taking a big chance.

Wouldnt toxins, if there were any, have already taken its toll on the fish(s)? Im not saying its safe because the water is clear. I know toxins probably wouldnt be visible to the naked eye. I just figure the rock is safe because its been in the tank so long with no effect on the fish. Im going to replace it asap though. Just need something to replace it with.

Toxins can do wipe-outs, but those are less common than having particualar tanks that just do not as well as others. Fish get more issues and problems as they get more build-up of the particular toxin(s).

We used to see more of that from past bizarre practices such as keeping pennies in tanks to fight some infections and snails - those tanks tended to get worse over many months to years as copper in the fish increased. There were also batches of toxic pumice type collected rock. Acid tanks tended to have more issues, but that could depend on the local water and available rocks/minerals.

I do not believe Marco rocks are for FW tanks.

Oh by the way, i removed that rock like 10 days ago. =D
