Re: Ghost Shrimp
I'll definitely need to look around then. I know they aren't the most nutritious by any means, but if I could have a hundred of them in a tank, eating what I want them to, it would be worth it.
It's a crayfish! It's a snail! It's a... ah who cares?

Re: Ghost Shrimp
I found a LFS that said they could get 500 ghost shrimp for £15. Porblem is I'd probably have to get a big tank to house them

Re: Ghost Shrimp
TBH I don't have any experience breeding ghost shrimp, just cherry shrimp, but if you had enough plants and things for them to climb on and kept the water quality and changes up, you could get away with 5 gallons. 2.5 seems way to small. I would even give them 10-15. A 10 gallon would be better since they would start breeding when not too crowded, if they are anything like cherry shrimp.
I honestly don't know how freezing little shrimp would go. I freeze my marmorkrebs by pulling out 20-50 when they are the right size, sticking them individually on wax paper sheets, and sticking them in the freezer. Works great. It makes sense the same thing would work for shrimp as well.

Re: Ghost Shrimp
I told you I didn't know much about them lol, I had no idea they got that big as I haven't seen on in the pet store more than 1/2 inch". If that's the case, then I would definitely go for a slightly larger tank between 10 and 20 gallons. If you have the 2.5 handy, you could always start them in there and be ready and willing to upgrade if they cannibalize, or if water conditions get to hard to keep in check. Or you could just get less shrimp. 25-50?

Re: Ghost Shrimp
That is very true.
But I also would like to put them in my tank and over time they would gutload? because I know they eat the fish food I put in there because I saw one trying to eat a blood worm! Also I have a couple fish that eat fish flakes so they eat that too. So in all reality they benefit my tank because they clean the algae that my algae eater misses and pose as food for my fish!

Re: Ghost Shrimp
Keeping them in there might work. I haven't done it myself, but my first thought is that they would get eaten faster than you might like. The second is that while they do have a small bioload, it is still a real one. If they hide in your plants, be prepared for lots of bite marks on the leaves as the puffer tries to get at them.
