Oh yeah Bertie, im so stoked to get this tank finished so i can set it up and have a permanent home for my GSP. Im gonna have to drag it into my living room so i can watch a movie while i work on it.

Some peops prefer a heated razor, i never did. I always used these real cool wafer thin blades thst didnt need to be heated to get good results. Love it that you are going for this. The most important thin is not to rush and cut corners, if you take your time you will get a much better result. you will be glad you did it slower. I dont think putting the tv on will help. Give this your 100% attention, if you screw up you have to start from scratch

this is the tool i use for removing silicone seal
the handle is large enough at the end to be able to push it forward with the palm of your hand without getting close to the sharp end
the blade itself is 1/2 inch wide, the overall length of the tool with blade is 5 1/2 inches
it's made by X-Acto, and has replaceable blades
lots safer than razor blades

sharp edged tools and watching a movie might not be a good combo

Ive cut through all sides of the tank but the trim is still locked into place. There are 2 corners that i cant get all the way into but i dont think theyll be holding the whole thing down.

Found a large flat cheese slicer for a dollar at the grocery and it fits perfectly under the tank trim!

Could i take the bottom trim off instead and remove the broken glass or will both pieces of trim need to come off? Im thinking both.

Right on. I plan on working on it more today. The top trim is being extra difficult

Great success today! I got the top and bottom trim off. Tomorrow i plan on getting the broken side out and getting the extra silicone cleaned off.

This is great experience. If all goes well, and you don't go insane from the effort, you could even consider making your own acrylic tanks in the future, saving you tons of $$$, although not time lol. I'm excited to see how this works for you.
