There's always a risk during times like these of knee-jerk reactions and going too far in the other direction but there are definately times and places for rough justice, and this, I've got to say, has to be it. I'm talking rubber bullets and water cannon, not live ammo! If the police do get more aggressive then the general population has to accept that there will probably be a few accidental deaths and rally behind them in the aftermath because if we don't then there'll be a lot of thugs with hefty payouts (and many decent police officers out of a job) thanks to our weak justice system and weak judges.

Hrmm. Still not sure what's going on over in London that caused all of this trouble, and I don't know what the law says that your rights are in this situation over in the UK, but it does seem that the police need all the help they can get. That being said, it would be very unprofessional for them to allow open engagement between civilians and rioters. Whatever you decide to do, BW, stay in one piece and don't get arrested. And, don't forget to wear a TPF thong on your head; it'll scare the crap out of the rioters and get some publicity for the forum.

Heard on the radio that business that survived the Nazi's have now been burned to the ground. 140+ year old buildings/business burned

iliveinazoo- the guy who started this by getting shot's family are apparently putting in a claim for compensation, because he was shot before he could shoot, so the reason they're using is that the police weren't to know if he was definitely going to shoot, so had no right to shoot first.
I have a few problems with this:
1. He had a gun, which is illegal.
2. It was LOADED.
3. He was a drug dealer, which again is illegal.

I can't get my head round it, this country is plain ridiculous at the minute. You watch the amount of extra human rights laws we'll get put in place over this whole thing. It won't make us crack down on the people that deserve it, we'll just give more rights to the "ignored, underclass" (that's what someone in the government has labelled them apparently). I'm giving up on this country.

I agree with you, this whole situation is absurd. The way I remembered being taught by the USMC, 'Do Not Fire until Fired Upon' didn't apply to enemy combatants, and anyone pointing a gun at you was to be considered an enemy combatant. Common sense, really. It should apply to everyone; civilians, police, military, whoever. Unfortunately, instead of a common sense, fundamental right to defend yourself and/or others from a deadly attack, we have 'laws.' (shakes head)

I think that laws are extremely beneficial. Sure, a lot of them are embarrassments (like the penalties and animal welfare laws) however I can't imagine a world without them. Violence just causes more violence. I guess I'm just not one of the ones that follows the shoot first, shoot again, then ask questions policy.

That being said, the riots are awful and I feel so bad for those innocent people who are being negatively affected by it. I hope they can get the help that they need.

many laws are not..........
when law abiding citizens are prevented from defending themselves, their families, homes, and businesses by disarming them, i have a problem with such laws
many people feel that it is their right and duty to be in a position to defend their own, and do not trust that the police & military can help
there have been many instances where the citizens have not received the help they need
switch on the TV, look at it, it's happening, in "real time", right now, this very moment.......

The shoot first, shoot again and ask questions policy - whether legally justified or not - is always followed by an expensive trial, a wrongful death lawsuit in civil court by the perps family, a ruined carpet, and no one to pay for the damage done to your property because the guy that did it is in the morgue; I can't imagine anyone actually looking forward to that. But that's not what I meant earlier; what I meant was that governments and their agencies have a hard time protecting their own citizens without people crying police brutality, profiling, etc, or ending up in legal trouble themselves due to 'defective' or misspoken laws and policies that only end up punishing the good guys. Some good examples of that are the US Border Patrol agent who was thrown in jail after shooting and killing a Mexican cartel drug runner who fired upon him first, or the policeman who wound up with a murder charge for shooting someone trying to run him over with a 5,000 pound SUV, because he was 'technically not in posession of a weapon' and therefore lethal force was unjustified.

hahahaaha well there was never any violence where we were patrolling, the youths were put off by the presence of 300 Local Men on patrol. LOL 1 - 0 to the Vigilantes I guess anyway the violence has died down over most of the country now. 800 People were arrested and the courts are working 24/7 to process all these scum!
