I'm thinking of a eheim powerball that's should help things out.
Tested the water last night, still 4ppm of ammonia, now got .5 nitrire and .5 nitrate

im pretty sure you should stop adding ammonia or cut back on the amount now that you are showing nitrites

Yes, once you see nitrite, you 1/2 the dosage of what it takes to create 5ppm ammonia.

i believe you reduce the amount by half not stop it. could be wrong tho

My first dose brought it to 4ppm, it's still that level, I'm introducing a second filter today, should I leave it as it is?
Also I'm not getting the puffer for maybe 2 weeks should I keep feeding the bacteria ammonia or possilble introduce some shrimp?

keep going as you are. can you put a small amount of cycling media from other filter in new filter to start the bacteria colony. as for shrimp you would need loads to equal the bioload of a puff. so i would keep adding a small amount of amm or some food
