Green ninja - my tap water measures about 1.004 on my Coralife, but I have well water. I took both my tap water and my tank water to petsmart to day to be tested and they said my tapwater measured 1.003 or something like that. So my Coralife is pretty accurate.
Puffer punk...I tested all my water parameters today and I came up with a SG of 1.012. Nitrates of 20, Nitrites of 0, an KH of 180 and Ph of 7.8. The KH and PH said they were Ideal for saltwater, but I have no idea for brackish water. Any suggestions?

Brackish tap water. Ever wonder where all of that rock salt cities use on the roads during the winter goes to? Now you know.

Lol...No one around here really drinks the tap water. It tastes awful.

If your water is very hard and alkaline, it may well not register at 1.000. Does you LFS or any other h\obbyist that you know have a TDS meter? An option would be to call the utility and ask is they read the TDS of your water supply.

Thank you for your reply. That is great news for me as well. I live in Maryland so we probably have similar water. My GSP's live in 1.008 SG.

Maryland has a huge variety of water analyses, as many different sources are used. You cannot guess about water analyses by just the state.

Our last move (long ago now) was about 3 miles - radically different water at the two places. The former home had surface water collection, the current place has a deep and geologically old aquifer (with plenty of soluble silicates!).
