I'm sure your puffer is happy but certainly not necessary, for a happy puffer.

Can't imagine that being so awesome for plants either, the additional supplements would be $$$

A lot of things we do are not necessary but beneficial to us and our pets. Many people do large water changes not just discus breeders!

I had to water change the T. mbu 3x weekly as well.
Minor correction: Many breeders change over 100% daily.

what i did was i added a product called safe start from tetra and the dechlorinater and two red tailed sharks and i was told after the cloudyness dissapeared i would be ok so that is when i added him that was about three days after.... the person who told me this has a fahaka and he said this is how he started his tank...if i messes up i would appreciate some dirrection i am getting my water tested tonight and what would be some signs of him being unhealthy??? he eats ALOT!!! and he is fairly active unless he just ate.... is there anything on his skin i should look for that would be bad?? thanks for the help guys!

Then the bioload isn't being handled at all by the bacteria you created by the sharks. Never mind, their lives are at risk of being pufferfood.
