yep, im with you RTR, all of my current puffers are sinlgetons. I am just going to go with 1 DP, I always try and want to provide the best living conditions that i can for all my animals.


It may actually be a while before i get my DP, I still have to set up the other 10 gallon for the snails and guppies ( and the OK to do so from my parents :33: ) then I have to speacial order one from my LFS. They arent cheap at my LFS either, its 5$ for one DP( which is a lot of money for me) so a singal DP would be better for me I think.

DP's are really small and 2 is fine in a 6 gallon, but glad you decided what you want to do

I dont have to worry about moving the guppy now, she died last night....

I had noticed that she had a growing string of poo about 3" long. maybe thats what did her in... I tank-raised her from fry that was born at my house too.... she was 6 yrs old

I think i may be underfeeding my snails, because bedfore i got to her body, the snails had eaten most of her... :28: Thats what they did to the other guppy and hatchet that were in there too.( they were also 6 yrs old, the hatchet died from a broken fin.)

I had a pair of DPs in an eclipse 6 a couple of years ago. It was lightly planted and also had a pair of amano shrimp. They did fine as long as I kept up on the water changes.

However, I cannot speak for long term in such a small tank. I moved these puffs into a 20L with a couple of other DPs after about 6 months (and used the eclipse 6 at work before giving it to a friend when I moved). The male of that pair, my first beloved DP, lived a bit over two years which I understand is about the natural lifespan of DPs.

Just make sure the tank is cycled before you add a DP... my Eclipse 6 was hard to get cycled the first time.

I doubt the life span of a guppy is more that 6 years. Snails are natural scavengers.

wow! 6 years. color me impressed. everything i have read put guppy life span anywhere between 9 months and 2 years. I say, be happy that you gave her as long a life as she had, she must have been very healthy to have lived so long

really? 9 months-2 years!?! wow that doesnt seem like very long. She was actually one of my first fish too, that i bred, back when i knew almost nothing about fish. shes been through a lot, including living in 2 different tanks with less then perfect conditions, and only being fed flake food for a major part of her life. since then I have learned a Massive amount of things, and gave her a nice home in the 6 gallon.
