The Puffer Forum

I would just keep those beautiful plants and get DP's. But that's just me though. One winkly eye male and acouple of females DP's is what J-p is saying.

The cichlids were moved about half a week ago and I transferred over four striped danyos from the 55g to keep the bio filter fed. Those will be removed once puff shows up because their long, delicious tails will no doubt be just too tempting.

I think the decision on which poochface will call for some more research today. I've maintained a huge salt tank before, but it came with all the supplies and was fully set up when it was relocated to me to accommodate a rescued shark. Once I found a suitable home for said shark, he and most of the tank traveled onward (not before he ate all the fish though, of course.) I've never gone back to salt since, the shark endeavor was probably the worst way to be introduced to salty keeping, but sometimes we don't choose which creatures need our help.

So three female DwarfP's and one male sounds like that might be the way to go. I feel horrible for those beautiful GSP's now, I did so have my heart set on one little green guy in particular.

Well, after a trip to the LFS, where I took a look at the DP's and then again at the GSP... bouncing back and forth between the two tanks trying to decide.... my (exasperated) boyfriend finally threw up his hands and proclaimed "You won't be happy until you have that green one, so just bite the bullet and get him!"

And so, our newest member of the wet pet family came home already christened "Glock."

Glock is already a remarkable fish. At the LFS he was almost frantically swimming side to side, up and down, circling the one rock and strafing the one plant in his tank. He wasn't too happy about the ride home and was darting around in the bag until I finally covered it with a jacket. After his bag was moved into the tank to float, Glock calmed down and his eyes were goin' every which way. He seemed to decide he really liked the look of the place and began doing everything in his power to bust out of the small prison.

Once his floating timer was up Glock took to his home immediately. He was not at all cautious but took a leisurely round about the tank, eying everything. Then he began to touch things with his lips, body, and tail - taking extra time on plants he must have found appealing. I'm not sure what other people say about feeding and/or wanting food right away, but no one told Glock he was supposed to hide and refuse to eat for a few days. He went to work on a few cherry shrimp I had put in there "just in case" and even nipped at a quarter-sized mystery snail.

After his explorations Glock realized I was sitting right by the tank and came over to look at me. He examined me from just about every side possible, peeking through plants, over the plants, and then finally pressing his eye against the glass. I swear he needs a monocle and top hat..... I could all but hear him saying "Hmm, yes, yes. Quite right then!"

Glock spent the rest of the evening "toodling" around the tank, in no hurry to go anywhere and seemingly at peace. I think he and I will get along just fine!

Glock eyes his new world speculatively.

LOL, I knew you were getting a GSP, congrats! Keep a close eye on the parameters for a while, as that tank has been empty for a few days with nothing feeding the bacteria. Keep FW for a couple of weeks, until you see the parameters are stable & do WC accordingly.

Really? Hahaha!!! I did not even know that until you said something......lol. Well that just changed things all around now since those plants are fake...lol.

Glock is his name. You collect guns or just an owner? I might name one of my future Congo or Hiary puffers, Ruger..lol.

I own a Glock .40 and keep my face recognizable at the indoor range not to far from here. I think Ruger would be an excellent name for one of the hairy puffers. They look so manly!

I admit I wanted to name mine "poochface." That has to be the most adorable word ever. My boyfriend declared that a "crazy aggressive killing machine who eats anything in the tank" cannot possibly be named something "prissy."

So Glock fit and made us both happy. Hehe

I named a suvattii, Hannibal. He bit through the bag he was floating in to bite through his neighbor's bag & eat it.

Hahaha! thought so. Yeah thought about naming a manly Hairy puffer Ruger after seeing someone naming their GSP Glock...lol. Btw, I own a .9mm and a .45 but I love my Ruger P97 which is my .45 . I love the Stainless Steal slide. Only shot is afew time at a gun range but had to go with Winchester ammo because the other ammo I was using was way too dirty and made the gun not want to shoot right. Btw, my home and family protecting rounds I use in my Ruger is Remington Golden Sabers (hollow points). Look at me, I went way off topic...lol. But anyways, congrats on the GSP choice. I thought you had all live plants so that was why I mentioned something about DP's.

I like guns, they have a certain horrible beauty to them. I admit I don't know a whole lot, but if you hand me one I know which end to point away from myself! I mainly have the .40 as home protection, since I used to live alone. The man who sold it to me wanted to know what I was buying it for, and upon finding it was to "violently dissuade someone of the idea to attack me" he laughed so hard he turned red and then removed the 9 I had picked out to hand me the compact .40. After putting a laser sight on it I am damn good at putting 20 rounds within an inch of the center. Sure shuts up those guys who see my "small" gun!

Thanks! I fell in love with the little green guys and just couldn't see myself with DP's no matter how hard I tried. I cant wait to get home from work and see how Glock is doing!

I am a firm believer that creatures will eventually show you personality to match what they should be named. I think you pegged it!

Well it's not the size of the gun, its the stopping power of the gun that counts for self protection . Yeah I started out with a .9mm but the .45 had alot more stopping power when or if needed. Noticed that alot of policeman carry .40 now days. Reason I say that because my cousin is a cop. Btw, I heard anyone can be accurate with a laser sight..lol...jk.
