I suppose some folks do still run pure FO in SW, but that is hugely $$$. They would need a biofilter with SW nitrification bacteria. That is too costly and involves higher risk. I don't see the point when SW techniques are better and long-term far cheaper.

Your welcome Arny :D . I thought it was neat and would love to do it with FW tanks but I will agree with PP about SW tanks are much easier to cycle with cured LR. There is much easier ways to cycle tanks without bacteria in a bottle. Like using well mature seeding filters and filter media but if you dont have them (like most of the time I set up a new tank myself unless you have muti tanks) you have to cycle them in other ways, like bacteria in a bottle of some sort. Now I never used this product from Dr. Tim but have used others. I never use fishless cycle because I dont like to add a bottle of ammonia from the store and throwing it in the tank. It's too unnnatural for me but everyone has their own ways of cycling tanks. Btw, I also agree with RTR about bacteria liking certain spots to colonize. I had alittle argument in MFK about this but it's everyone's opiniun. But some has better one's then other's...lol and what RTR mentioned was much similer to was I stated on MFK but like I said everyone has their own opiniun.

Examine most things you read on MFK very, very carefully. That site has more than its fair share of folks with, shall we say...alternate ideas and theories of keeping captive fish?

Huh..the word theory would imply that one had knowledge of some sort of science that in some way explains phenomena..

What those poeple have is, "My cousin's friend said.." and, "My fish is still alive after I did X,Y,Z so it MUST be ok to do XYZ"

I found that sight is overrun with teenagers, not smart intelligent teenagers like LIl'swims, but teenagers who would idolize Bevis and Butthead IF they were even old enough to know who they were.

It disgusts me that moderators don't police the advice and opinions given over there more, it disgusts me more that said moderators know less about fish than Bevis and Butthead.

I quit going over there...if I saw one more member sporting a high post count and insisting that even though he dropped out in the 9th grade and failed 6th grade science he was qualified to tell someone that , "Yes, you can cycle a tank in 3 days" or "1 inch per gallon, A pacu fits your 10 gallon tank!", I would e-stalk them and tell their mothers to take away their computer privileges.

Off my soap box now...

LOL!! I just posted a reply.. a nice one though. It would be difficult to refute ;) BUT we digress.

Since Dr. Tims has a proven product, I wonder how many other companies have recently developed something similar? I know a lot have claimed to.

PC, a very good friend of mine never does WC's in any of his tanks but get this they do better then most people I know. Yeah it's crazy but he has great looking fish and breed like crazy all the time. I don't get it. But it is African cichlids we are talking about but still. I always ask him "what's your secret?" and he tells me the he does nothing to them.
