Water in itself isn't cycled, the bacteria clings to surfaces, it's not free floating in the water column in any significant amount.

True.
Is the tank cycled or not? We don't know. Most likely not. From here.. how do we help this member keep that little guy alive?

Water changes.

Thus the original question still stands. How much salt for a 10g? Keeping in mind that 50% water changes daily will require 50% of the salt needed to keep the 10g at what ever target level the owner wants.

I wish I had a hydrometer with me here..

Problem is we have no idea what the sg of the original tank was and he has no way of accurately measuring the sg if we did

yep... correct.

Since the store is closed until Monday there is no real way of telling. Only guesstimation.

BTW ... when you (Capt Dorsal Fin) say how much salt? What kind of salt do you have ready on hand?

We called Petsmart, and we told to add 2 teaspoons per gallon- especially for Green Spotted Puffers. So, that is what we did. We are slowly adding water to the bucket from the water in which he came (salt water from the store) and her appears to be doing ok, we will continue to do this over the next 12 hours- which was the recommendation of the store.

Capt if you could answer a few of the questions ask it would be alot easier to help. What type of salt did you add and is your aquairum cycled, if so how did you cycle it?

...even if it had been cycled the biological filter would not survive the abrupt increase in salinity.

Well, just wanted everyone to know that the fish has now been in his BW tank for over 3 hours, swimming fine. He has eaten, and appears to be doing well.
I have raised other green spotted, and figure 8's to live long lives in freshwater-BW water actually, this one was the first one I got straight from salt water tank. All the other ones I got from fresh water tanks at stores.
So, thanks for everyone's "help", We'll see how he does through the night.

We were all trying to help....the only impediment to that was your unwillingness to listen.
Surviving for 3 hours means very little...if you were truly concerned for the welfare of your fish you would have answered the questions we asked.
I hope you have enough sense to do what's right instead of just throwing insults.

I understand that 3 hours was a short time. I just wanted to let everyone know he was fully in the BW at that point.
I was trying to answer the questions as best I could, with the info I had.
I was trying to help this guy- but when people are rude, and honestly, it wasn't people, it was you- I guess you get what you give.

I got upset because you asked for help but refused to answer any of the relevant questions,...then got pissy when we asked you to do so. And I didn't take shots at your nationality or your dog....or start name calling like a 3 year old.

You're right,...you get what you give...you were rude so you got rude back.

You talk about the other fish you had,..and that they lived a long life but you lack the basic knowledge necessary for that and could not/did not answer the most basic of questions.

The truth is that you screwed up and couldn't deal with it...then took out your frustrations on us. If you had been a little less of a jerk, none of this would have occurred. This is what prompted my comments....

"...We don't have one... if you can't give us a valid suggestion don't respond...'

Remember Capt,...none of us have any stake at being here other than to help,..it was your behavior that thwarted that effort. I admitted that my comments were not productive and removed them but the onus was on you to provide us with the information we needed to help you. To not do so is a waste of our time and effort.

I agree

plus, you say you've kept brackish tanks with no salt reading equipment. Thats just great :D Let me guess, a year is a long lived puffer in your eyes.
