One of our crays finally had babies. Gave 3 to the irrubescos and can't find any more. The second one had eggs a couple weeks ago but we haven't seen either female since. Between the barnacles and the moss they can stay hidden all of the time and that's definitely what they prefer. The babies are cute though

So far Ive had a ghost shrimp in with my marble Cray for about a month so far , He makes an appearence from time to time!

She tries to pinch me everytime I go to put a new cucumber piece in! Since I only have 1 , I just ordered 3 more via aquabid!

From what I have read, they say 8-10 weeks. It has been much longer than that and I was really hoping to have some offspring by now. :/

Are you keeping them in a species only tank? What is the temp, water change schedule etc.. like?

yes species only, Dont even have a heater on the tank but stays at 74ish, which is probably why they grow so slow. I try to change the water every 2 weeks but once there are babies I kinda stretch it out cause im so afraid of sucking up babies that I cant see. The decor is just sand, pvc, and rocks.

Right now Im just waiting for the babies to grow, I thinned out my population to much

I've kept them for a few years, too. Great critters.

With regard to the blue color sometimes seen on the marbled crayfish Procambarus fallax f. virginalis: This can apparently be triggered with hard alkaline water. This is different to the blue morph of P. (Leconticambarus) alleni, which does not depend on hard alkaline water, the blue marbled ones are not that deep blue as the alleni.

To improve propagation provide pristine water conditions and feed a lot (plants as well as animal protein). Eggs will appear on each crayfish about every 8 weeks.

My largest one had 6 inches after a few years and was a real danger to fishes, plants and its own species. However, it had up to 100 young every 8-9 weeks.

If you live in a warm area these crayfish can be a real danger to nature should they ever get outside somehow. I had them flee from a tank several times until I used tight lids or removed any possibilities to climb.

A lot of mine have turned a light blue.

Corvus the thought of them getting away and into some water somewhere is why im afraid of doing water changes when there are new babies

Nice crayfish, I've been looking at them myself but due to diseases they carry I am only allowed to keep local breeds . I might try ordering from Germany though and see if it arrives.
