The common pleco (common pleco seems to differ, but anyways) is another prime example of big fish that are abused/housed improperly. Sure, they're 1" long when the LFS sells them... but 3 years later you're looking at a 12"+ monster. They can grow much bigger than 12", but not many people keep them that long, or keep them alive that long.
