where did you read that it releases pollutates into the water? i would like to read that article. remember that this was the question before hand and i have not put this piping into my tank and wont until a for sure answer is reached.

Ask at a home store. They can likely guide you. Or go to your county permits office and ask them for the allowable standards for potable water. That is a question for the pros in permitted and forbidden usage.

The advice given is correct. ABS is for waste line. It can be used for other stuff as well:

you can get black flex tubing for water at your hardware store. It comes in a large coil so you'd have to soak the portion you want in hot water to straighten it out. It is 1/2". Perfect for a spray bar and cheap.
