Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
Did anyone notice the Ick medication right in front of the tanks in my video? How funny ,honestly, that they have what they need to have somewhat healthy looking fish but aren't educated enough to know. So sad.
I can hold my breath for a minute or so,five days without food is as long as i'll go, I didn't sleep once for four days and three nights, I once didn't stop for seven red lights, I jumped into water that's fifty degrees, I've rowed in a kayak in thirty foot seas, I've stayed in the woods for a week with a knife, a flint, when i lost it, nearly cost me my life,
Twenty years later, I'm still upside down.

Well, ich medication isn't safe for puffers.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

But still something should be done...When I received my GSP he had a white spot on his top fin. I increased the temp up a couple degrees and that white spot went away within a few days. So at least they can make it warmer but that is probably hard with all the fish running off the same filtration system.

Family businesses - all the way!
Canadian Walmarts do not sell fish. I know that a lot of people called and wrote letters. Our neighbours to the south need to do the same thing. It can be done. Walmart is an awful company though. We've had nothing but problems in my local area. We very successfully avoid it.

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
It's not just them, either. It blows my mind how much food is wasted in the States. Not just commercially, but also in residential homes! I can name at least a dozen places friends of mine have worked at that either threw away extra food at the end of the day or piled up throughout the day. There's one fast food place in my hometown that's almost always cooking food to have it fresh and after like 10 minutes, if it's not sold it's piled up and counted at the end of the day, then tossed.ironbone wrote:you are not going to get it.what you think should happen is not--these old skool people should let you know that, just walk away dont fret it...i live in michigan here at local meijeirs i just wanted pest snails..so one would think 8 people 1 hr later no we cant help you they(snails)dont have barcode heres 10$ no sir thats stealing...huh stealing what the pests growing in your tanks no barcode cant do it makes no sense to me,but i thought back about 20 yrs me and couple buddies use to hang out at dunkin donuts no trouble we were like 15--all we had to do was buy a cup of coffee continuous and you got to hang out well this waitress love us so much every morning at 3 am they piched their donuts---we would go grab some and come back in drink our coffee well she got fired no one would tell us nothing but still dunkin donuts thrugh away food that could of went to shelter anywhere but a dumpster.but if i tell dunkin i guess its shortened now the story never happened.thats why you find a forum that isnt going to bust chops on anything you ask...

Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
Yea, no kidding.... I used to work at a denny's as a bus boy and the amount of food we wasted in a day would feed a family of four 3 square meals a day with some left over. Or wrong orders or stuff like that would just get thrown away.... In the US we just dont know scarcity when it comes to food. With maybe the exception being the citrus crop getting frozen down in Florida. Its a simple fact, if we have the money for it its available..... And thats all we as americans have ever known. Shoot man, while living in Dallas I saw a homeless man begging for money at a subway in downtown while I was in line. After someone gave him money for a sub mealdeal he ate half the sub, threw the leftover sub and chips away and walked out with the coke! Why? Cuz he knew there would be more food later.... its just not scarce.....It's not just them, either. It blows my mind how much food is wasted in the States
As far as the puffer's I agree with the walmart guy that your average employee doesnt know squat. The corporate stuffed shirts are the ones that know a cute little fish with big ole eyes and a puppy dogs face will sell fast, and screw what happens once there gone. I hate Walmart, I sometimes feel like I need to get drunk or pop a zani before my wife and I even walk into that place....

Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
In all honesty if I worked at wall mart and made the wage they pay I wouldn't give a crap about anything, living or not. With that being sad I don't think it's fare to blame employee's even if they're trained or not but direct your blame to the managers and the company. Like jus85411 said, I as well would like to see pictures of the "correct" set up they are in now that you've made a change.
Flutter - Canadian Wal-Marts do sell fish, well they do in my area anyways though I never bother to look at them cause it just makes me upset.

Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
they don't in Ontario ... only accessories.
To blame the employee isn't fair? Hell, I'm P/T minimum wage and responsible for an entire grocery store's pricing (and it is a HUGE store). I give a dang because if I screw up it is my job. If I don't know everything about my job, regardless of wage I'm not qualified to be there.
Some days I feel over paid and some days under paid, but it balances out and I enjoy it. If these ppl don't... get them out and get more qualified ppl to do the job. There are many min wage students with knowledge of these tanks that can do much better than they can. Job screening is all it takes.

Re: Is this animal/puffer abuse?
That would be good, but if you ever go to Wal-Mart, how often do you see someone at the pet section to help you? Usually, if a customer wants fish, they have to ask someone from a nearby department or get it themselves. If they have questions regarding the pet products, then they'll have to refer to some other resource because no one there is going to know the difference between products.
If you want real maintenance on your car, either do it yourself or go to a specialist. If you're looking for a specific pet, you find a breeder. Looking to buy good appliances, you go to a hardware store. Wal-Mart's specialty is in none of this. Their specialty is lower prices through stressing their distributors. The products, all general things people need put in one location. The issue here is with a live product. When you sell a terrible product, it is up to the responsibility of the consumer to know what they're buying and using. When you sell something living, it's an entirely different genre of sales. I worked at a local ma&pa type pet store for awhile (now closed down, sad to say) and I can honestly say even in my last month working there, I referred customers with questions I couldn't answer to the manager. That's with working with only ONE type of sales. I don't expect Wal-Mart to ever have a fully qualified person in every department because it would cost a large amount. However, many people do take advice from these people and while it may not be dangerous to say, "Oh, that microwave is a great brand! It'll last a lifetime!", it is wrong to say, "Of course you can put these fish together, just remember the 1-inch to 1-gallon rule!".
Could Wal-Mart hypothetically sell Puppies? Absolutely, and they'd have every Amish puppy mill in the world working for them. However, this would land a law suit on the CEO's desk so fast, the first puppy would never leave the distributor. They know this and they push whatever they can.
