Tetracycline is an antibacterial, not an anti-parasite med.

This is what happens when I get fish meds.

I never use fish meds. Salt is about as far as I go.

I bought $120 worth of frozen foods today...so I guess that kinda got caught up in the wash. I read internal and external on the box and must have assumed that it was for parasites. D'oh.

Anyways...do you guys recommend I medicate for parasites? I will try to pick some of that up as well. Anything in particular? Thanks

Meh, not really right now...at least not noticeably. He is a super small fish. Like I said about an inch.

Will try and get pictures, but I am still struggling with my printer.

Going to try the worms you suggested on MFK tomorrow morning potentially if I decide to go into work.

I just heard on here (maybe this thread?) that you should always treat for internal parasites when you get them in.

Many people treat for IPs because puffers are caught from the wild and most come with heavy parasite burdens. We always treat right away and that has to do with the fact that we have multiple tanks and we don't want something bad transferring to our healthy fish. We QT but we still always deworm. It's safer than having to deworm all the tanks and fish.

You can watch for white feces, a belly that goes down quickly, and a pinched look after a few hours to a day or two after feeding. A healthy fish won't get that pinched look even after a longer period with no feeding.

Because I cant upload my pictures without my printer.

Stomach looks a little strange to me, but so do most puffer stomachs.

He had a couple snails the other day, and I gave him the smallest worm we had in the lab...he took about 3 bites off of one end of it, and then left the rest which I removed after about 30 minutes in tank.

Havent seen any feces, a little something was tracing out, but it was small/clearish. Not really anything to make a judgment on.

He is obviously in a tank by himself, a 10g for now, as it makes it easier to feed him at his 1" size. I will take a picture with my phone camera and try to post sometime this week.

Can't you upload them directly to your computer?

No, I cant...dont have a USB cable for my camera, so the only way to do it is directly with the memory card.

They're cheap at Amazon.

Today this puffer is almost a stick...so I am assuming parasites.

I fed heavily, and put in one dose of anti parasite meds.

What r you feeding and did you dose the food with the IP treatment?

What type of medication are you using?

Also, in FW puffers it really is best to treat their food. You can put the medication in a small glass with a small amount of water and food. Let the food soak for a few hours and then feed it I try to stick with a yummy food so the puffer continues to eat eagerly.

Im gearing up to try the fahaka thing again, this time as a personal pet - so he will have my constant observation and care...as opposed to the last time where the puffer was at my lab, and I was gone for 17 days in LA.

Just wondering what exact medication I should have on hands so that one this guy is in QT I can treat for internals immediately.

What foods do you recommend soaking in the medicine?

I havent fully decided if Im going the fahaka route, I have a 100g setup right now, trying to get a 120g set up as well for the next phase as well.

I have a couple other fish setups Im considering, but I have never done the large puffer thing and would really like to.
