You have to have that stuff for betta's to live. I have to buy 5G of it at a time

My EXACT reaction, too. I laughed and shook my head. Several of our LFS have big end cap displays with all this new Micro Mini Betta stuff. Geez...poor fish. I still cringe seeing them in plastic drinking cups which is how most places have them - all lined up on a shelf.

I bought my betta at Jack's and he was in the smallest cup that I have ever seen one in...I guessing they change the water more often than some other box stores.



This cup had 6 ounces of water in it. The cost of little guy was free so I had to take him home. They think the "fish of the month" club gets people in the door to sell them other stuff but I will walk in and get a snail, or in this case a betta, and will leave with nothing else.

At Jack's you pay a membership fee of $2.99 to join their "fish of the month" club and each month, for a year, you get a credit of $2.99 to put towards fish, inverts, and I think plants. So the fish was on sale for $2.97 and...

Don't get me wrong I do buy other things there but if it's the 29th of the month and I don't need anything else from there, I will just go get my free item.

umm sort of... when the biofilter crashed it was similar..

I use pot scrubbers for the filter and I did crush a large hunk of quartz thinking it would look good on the bottom. It turned out to be RAZOR sharp and even small fragments easily cut me while handling it.

The WC thing yea.. ('cause I am on well water I can get away with it) Had a garden hose going into the tank and a python taking water out... that was over the course of a few day I think....

wow your tank sounds awesome! we need pics stat! just a tip...if you go outside and find some rocks and add them to the tank they look really good! dont wash um tho cus if you do then you kill all the good bacteria on it and they will not be live rock anymore. also moss makes a good reef efect

I boiled the rocks that could fit in a pot, and the ones that didn't were put into a cooler and had boiling water added to them.

I don't really want any more garden nasties in my tank.. (or any more than I already have).

ive read that boiling rocks is BAD. That either air or water inside the rock will boil and cause the rock to explode

depends on the rock ... yes some can not be boiled .. thus not all rocks can be used in a sauna... small cracks and fissures can cause pressure and cause the rock to fragment and sometimes violently.

Some are hollow and definitely should not be boiled... you have to know what you are holding

ahh got ya. I know nothing about rocks, other then they are heavy and some are cool looking lol

And some around here have tons of fossils in them. Extremely cool. I found a whale or porpoise tooth in my garden last week, no lie. I'm in Ohio!
