I put them underneath large rocks in the tank to create a cushion between the glass and rock so it won't have any sharp points on the rock pierce the rock, or whatever. Support.

I use eggcrate under rocks inside the tank. All of my massive rockwork tanks (mbuna and Tangs mostly, not puffers) have full size floor covers of eggcrate. I think that it gives better weight distribution for glass protection.

I have seen that in SW set ups before. Didn't know what it was for. Thank you!

We have foam underneath our rocks and sand in the F8 tank. That way the rocks won't create pressure points and even if they do fall they won't break the bottom pane of glass ;)

LOL @ Flutter - I suspect that you work with fewer and smaller rocks than I do. I have had a rock go through the side of a 50. it is not easy, but it can be done.

When I say rock tanks, I mean rock tanks. My 75 mbuna tank held 30-something gallons of water - which is why I had to add a large sump and multiple large canisters - I needed the water volume.

Yeah, our rocks are all small  The biggest one is probably about 4lbs. I worry but at least the bottom is safe

i've used cardboard beneath my tanks for a long time, but thinking of getting high density polyethylene foam sheets (or equivalent) for cushioning
anyone know where (what stores or kind of stores) sell it?
also, RTR mentioned in a prior post "blue beadboard", but my google searches end in what appears to be paneling-type materials :?
i want to stay away from styrofoam - too brittle to work with
any ideas?
Thanks! :)

My sources have always been the Home stores. The blue beadboard is not as messy as styrofoam, but I still wrap the edges with plastic tape.
