I think that if you're going to fully stock that tank with puffers then they'd appreciate some more plants. It's a great look, I especially love the wood, but the more plants the better for DPs

Yes plants are going to be shipped this week, they will be here before the puffers.

I'd add more plants. Densely planted is best.

I just wanted to say that I would not worry so much about gender. I think in a tank that big they will sort themselves and will develop a pecking order. I believe it's only when you're keeping them in a small tank that you need to worry about the ratio of males to females.
They will have their little territories and will chase each other, but I think that's the worst of it.
And definitely more plants and/or ornaments. You need to break the line of sight as much as possible.

Unfortunetly, you can not sex juvies. You have to wait for them to mature.

I'd get 5-6 juvies and once they mature take back any leftover males to a LFS.
I had two males and 4 females in my 29 gallon and the males fought alot IMHO, and the tank was super dense with plants, so personally I'd go for 1 male 4 - 5 females

I bought 5 juvies for my 29 gallon tank (so small they couldn't possibly be sexed), and unfortunately I've ended up with 3 males and 2 females. Everyone seemed to be getting along well ... until recently. Now the males are getting into regular scraps with one another, and my favorite male has an injury on his snout as a result.

So it's back to the LFS with the two feistiest males. Rather than attempt to introduce new DPs to the 3 that I'm keeping, I'm going to downsize my little trio to a smaller (but still densely planted/decorated) tank.

Maybe there's something odd going on in my tanks, because I've never had any issues with my dwarf puffers hurting one another. I have no idea what my male to female ratio is, I do know there's a dominant male that I see chasing off any other DP that wanders into his territory (which just happens to be right in the middle of the tank). I've always kept a group of DP's ... I think that's how they're meant to be and probably how they are in their natural environment (although that's just a guess on my part). Whatever the case may be ..... mine all seem to get along pretty well together.

I talked to my LFS and they said they can order the puffers for me and sent me to the website of their provider. I can not find 'pea' puffers but I was able to find the Golden BB puffer when I searched the scientific name CARINOTETRAODON TRAVANCORICUS. Are these puffers the same thing?

pea puffers are also dwarf puffers arent they?
