Re: My New "Mystery" Puffer
He was only £10.95, which I thought was quite a good bargain.
Yeah, I've just been reading from that link that Corvus gave, very interesting, although unfortunately there's nothing specific on rosenblatti, only for annulatus, and from what Corvus says, rosenblatti will be smaller than annulatus (which I am thankful for). If Corvus is right, then I think we're talking about a puffer that will be about 8-10" long, and that's not huge, so I can live with that.

The biotope information on the site I posted above are about S. rosenblatti:pufferpuggirl wrote:Yeah, I've just been reading from that link that Corvus gave, very interesting, although unfortunately there's nothing specific on rosenblatti, only for annulatus, and from what Corvus says, rosenblatti will be smaller than annulatus (which I am thankful for). Just switch you browser to German (text is still mostly in English), don't use the English mode (only S. annulatus available).
Here a copy of the important passages in case you cannot get it to work:
biotope:
"Both the Palmar mangrove forest and the Javita River had generally hypersaline, warm water (...). Mean salinities did not differ significantly between seasons (...). The salinity in both areas typically ranged from full strength ocean salinity (35 psu) to hypersaline, with two of the localities registering average salinities over 50 psu in Apr/04. The average water temperatures for the mangrove forest and the Javita River were 27.3 °C and 25.4 ºC respectively in Nov/03. In Apr/04, the average water temperature was significantly greater, rising to 30.8 °C and 31.2 °C for the mangrove forest and Javita River respectively (...). This is in accordance with seasonal changes in the temperature of the ocean along the continental coast of Ecuador due to shifts in the warm El Niño and cold Humboldt ocean currents." It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: My New "Mystery" Puffer
On a more serious note, this little guy (I've named him "Snafu") has a good appetite. He really tore into the mussel and raw shrimp with gusto. He tends to hang out above the internal filter on the tank. But he's getting along with the other puffers and I just hope that continues. I hope I'm not in for any nasty changes when he reaches sexual maturity.

Re: My New "Mystery" Puffer
.... but I'm scared!
You all know, if I do go to the dark side, I would need guidance every step of the way because I know absolutely NOTHING about doing a marine tank. Let me stress the word "NOTHING".
I mentioned it to my husband, and what's the first thing out of his mouth? -- "It's going to be expensive!" That's men for you. (Sorry guys).

But he's right."It's going to be expensive!"
$$ is the only reason I dont have Marine Tank. My cousin is selling a 75gal Reef Ready and even that is not pushing me to get in to a SW.

Re: My New "Mystery" Puffer
I know ... but if I do go to the dark side, it will have to be done a little at a time, if that's possible. I need to educate myself on what's needed. I just wish I knew someone that has a marine tank so they could explain things to me. It's going to be a whole new ballgame.
