Well, I went by the shop yesterday to see how the puffer was doing and to pick up some decor for it's tank and the little thing wasn't looking so happy. Dark colours and breathing very heavy. We thought it may be due to the meds for deworming and decided to see how it was today. Unfortunately it didn't make it through the night.

There are two more on order for next week so I'll see how those are when they arrive. If they don't look like they'll make it I'll wait and see.

The Baileyi is still there so maybe I will get that one - they've named it Cow Pat cos that's what they said they thought it looked like when it came in.

So, now a waiting game. Oh well.

Awww.... so sorry to hear that Tara. Do you know what kind of meds they are using on those puffers? That might be part of it. :?

You could always get Cow Pat and then go for an Abei another time. Baileyi's are nice puffers, okay not so active, but still nice. I love my girl (well that's what I call her) and would be reticent to give her up. :)

TBH I'm tempted to get Cow Pat but she's also a lot more epensive than the Abei. And I am stuggling with the new tank for this puffer so will not be able to get another tank unless i move somewhere bigger which isn't going to happen so it's going to be this puffer for a looooong time unless I get rid of either my dwarf puffs or the fish in my community tank and I don't like either of those options.

So,

I've currently got white gravel and some silk plants and a 'log tunnel/cave' for the tank, waiting for the new occupant.

If I do get the baileyi instead of an abei, should I change the gravel to sand or are they okay with gravel? I'm not sure if baileyi's like to bury themselves like muirius' do.

This is in case the new batch of abei's that are due to arrive tomorrow don't look so good.

I've never seen my Baileyi bury herself (I have gravel in her tank, used to have sand) ... but she does like her terracotta pot and PVC pipe that's in her tank. So as long as the "log tunnel/cave" is wide enough for a Baileyi, I'm sure it will be happy.

Hi PPG,

Thanks for your reply :-) the log thingy is big enough for it. I'm going by the shop today to see the new arrivals and how they're doing so will make up my mind about Pat then.
