how hard are their shells? Anything like an MTS?

Ah! Those are called Sulawesi snails around here. They are really cool!

I might look around for some, haha. They look really neat. I feel like with a miurus living in the sand 80% of the time I should have some cool things to look at. I just really didn't like the look of a racquetball sized apple snail. I'd rather a team of smaller guys. I was leaning toward Nerites just because I knew their numbers would stay under control in fresh water. Plus I think they have some really beautiful shells.

If you want to see a lot of cool Sulawesi snails, take a look at this topic in a Norwegain forum. I've linked to the end of the topic, as there isn't many sulawesi pics in the beginning. Click on the small pics to enlarge them. There are a lot of other snails there too.

I just got 2 more sulawesi snails this morning, and they are much much bigger than the ones I have in Orangetta's tank. I've put them in with Biscuit. And I agree that it is nice to see some activity in the tank since Biscuit stays hidden most of the time. I like how with the sulawesi you can see where they've been and I like watching them move, different than a normal snail.
To answer your question xray -- I believe their shells are every bit as hard as MTS, and they do look alot like MTS as well .... but definitely different once they come out of their shell.

Troender -- I just had to add, I have Google Chrome and it allows me to translate web pages into English if they are in foreign languages, and I did that with the forum link you have above .... I have to say, because the translation isn't perfect, it's so funny to read how it comes out. Make it much more comical than it should be I'm sure, but on a serious note, it's nice to know there's other snail lovers out there. I think snails are very cool, not just puffer food, although I use my ramshorn and some Apple snails for that purpose too. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Actually, there's a lot of fun written in that topic, but lots of it are untranslatable. Some of it you will never find in a dictionary, as it's not proper Norwegian. But there's two things that can help a little bit: We've nicknamed the Sulawesi snails "sulle". And one person is writing "vettu" over and over again, and it means "you know".

those snails are quite beautiful in that link you posted. It had my daughter and I entertained for quite a while - I'd love to get some beauties like those, myself!
