For you lovers of amazon frogbit!

This stuff has grown from four little pieces! :D

I'm psyched about a possible new tank; but I can't give any details about it or anything. Not yet anyways. All I can say is it's a 72gal and it will NOT replace this tank...just be the high tech; co2 version of this tank...oops...spilling details. Fine; It's got T5 Lights & a Fluval FX5 too...It's going to replace my community if I get it...but no more will you know. :)

Ok...so something happened in this tank.

For no apparent reason the plants have EXPLODED in growth; the shrimp are in breeding mode [and constantly running away from each other..lol] the pond snail colony has increased by 20% and the oto has a light turquiose/greenish stripe right after the molted brown pattern and before the unbroken/molted black stripe.

In short; my tank is thriving. I've stopped feeding because ATM; the shrimp/oto/snails aren't interested in anything I put in and the oto has also eliminated algae that was beginning to get a foot hold[except my favorite algae; GSA and the *HATED/DESPISED* bits of BBA] and turned the filter from green back to the flat black color...I'm happy because since this tank is moving along nicely; once the shrimp have babies and everything[no visible babies or berried females yet...], I can add the DP and remove the pond snails.

I've also decided to get the 72gal Bowfront and that frees up the 55 for either a GSP or a trio of F-8's and 7 BBG's. :D

This journal will now include the 72 when I get it/set it up. :)

Do you have your bubbler hooked up to the filter? Good idea...

That's my 5.5gal for my betta; Wendigo. It's filter is a Tetra Whisper 3i and it's air powered; so yes, there is an airpump on it...powering it. :D It's more powerful the one they sent with it...

Heater. It was disconnected; because as you can tell it's partly out of the water and it would've burnt up if it was still on. I eventually pulled it out.

That's my 5.5gal BTW. I was confused for a sec because I too thought you were talking about the 10gal. The 5.5 is just my random tank for plants that plan on taking over the world[that eventually are getting sent off to a member here].

I'm glad you like it enough to have the cool in front of "driftwood". :D I really like that ornament too; but it's not "real" DW. It's resin because I didn't want to deal with BBA being on it or anything like that.

LOL looks like the plants are taking off quite nicely. The frogbits flower too, don't they? (I saw a fake one that had little white flowers...) Quite pretty. What kind of ferts do you have to use in a tank like this, kENNY? and do you use C02 tabs or something?

hmmm...fertilization...

Male Betta [Wendigo] x1
Blue Mystery Snail [Pearl] x1

:D [aka I have flourish & root tabs [never used co2 before but I will once I get the 72] and I'm just too lazy to use them in it]

I'm 90% sure atleast 80% of the plants that were in here are going to you. I tore down and cleaned it and got a ton of plants out; but some I want for the 72..others I wanna pass on despite how I love them. [Probably everything but the crypts, anubias, & riccia]. My main point to saying I cleaned the 5.5 was that it was going to be the "fake tank that everyone hates" with blue gravel, plastic plants, dino skull, incandescent bulb[only on when I wanna look at the tank], etc. lol I rather despise algae and only have enough patience for my 10 and maybe 72 when I get it so I want this tank to be simplier. Until I get the 5$ to ship out the plants [remembering I'm 305$ in "debt" ATM] they can stay; but after; it's simple! lol

Amazon frogbit, to my knowledge, doesn't bloom. I know red root floater does tho.

I'll keep that in mind. My tanks do get overgrown rather quickly! :D

Remember my tanks are relatively high light [like 4WPG in this 5.5 [20W CF] & 3WPG in the 10 [15W CF's x2]; plus some plants are grown out in the pond[full sun] and thus, some may not live under lower light levels....but on that same token; the 55 was less then 1WPG and...

This was the result.

Wait till I have the 72gal going and extra plants and I'll send you all the leftovers from that project & my 10gal. :)

I hear ya. I'm in the same position.

And to think; I've gotta buy the new fish for the 72 too! :?

Atleast I can shove everyone from the 55 in there for now as most I don't see living more then a year now. [Skinny; deformed; that kinda thing]

If anyone is interested; my plan for the 72, once all the other fish die off, is:

1x Yellow Male Crowntail Betta, 27x Green Neon Tetras, 1x Zebra Pleco, 7x Otocinclus, 5x Kuhli Loaches, Bamboo/Red Cherry Shrimp & Malaysian Trumpet Snails.

I'm aiming for it to be understocked; yet colorful fish.
