He does look a little dark around the yellow stripe areas but that might just he may always be. He looks very healthy, might change with age and size but he looks happy enough.

To me he looks like he's just coloring to match the tank. He's blotchy because of the various shades of his environment, with fewer light highlights, also like his environment. His wants to be unseen, and I'd say his color is to that effect. If you replace a bunch of that substrate with lighter colored natural(not too white or he might bleach to match), he might go brighter.

so if you have a sand substrate he may lighten up?

my gsp is really bright green and bright white underneath, he has a sand substrate.

Yes you put a puffer on a dark substrate and their markings adapt. Although change the substrate wit quite a few fish and their markings look different.
If you want to see a really good pic of a Fahaka on a dark substrate look in Rockers user gallery at his Fahaka Taz and youll get a good idea.

You know, since I had a look at Rocker's Fahaka, I notice that his is blotchy too in some photos .... so maybe there's nothing wrong with Obie and I'm just worrying for no reason. I just didn't want there to be something wrong with him and have him become ill and lose him. He's such a character that I'd be devastated. The boy sure does like to eat, that much I know for sure. He's wild about food!
