I don't have any substrate in my snail tank, but if you're going to keep snails and shrimp together, I think the shrimp would enjoy the sand, because they like to sift through it. I've got sand in my shrimp tank. They also love mosses .... a moss ball is perfect, you will see them all over it.

In mine I have this thick kind of black sand, then a small plant pot, a moss ball and a cotton-like fake plant.

Uhh I don't have a set time schedule but I'd say around 3 days on and 4 off. Or a few hours a day. Then off most the rest of the day. It's on when feeding then off after. I was leaving it on alot hoping to get some algae growth but I wasn't gettin any so I gave up on the algae. They keep the tank soo clean I only do a 50% wc a month.

Today I was looking in the tank and there is tiny white worms crawling across the glass inside?
How do I get rid of these, they're only about 2mm long.

Ah yes, welcome to the worm invasion that freaks everyone out when they see them for the first time. I used to have them in my snail tank, but now they are gone, but I have them in one of my other tanks and I am hoping they willgo away soon from there too.

I've been told they are a result of over-feeding, but I am beginning to wonder if there's something more to it because when I first started keeping fish, I had community tank that I badly over-fed and yet I never seen any of those worms, but having said that, I did read that Apple snails will eat them, and I did have Apple snails in that tank. Too bad I can't put some in my other tank, but as there's a puffer in it, I don't think the puffer would allow an Apple snail to cruise around eating worms, or anything else for that matter.

Hmm, I've had 2 types of worms now.. first in my main tank which where very hair like, thin, long, white and horrible, floating around in the water.. I expect that was from over feeding but I don't feed these much at all! and when I do it's gone fast, there's not really any left laying about.
They're a lot less freaky than the other worms.. these remind me of TINY slugs or something, crawling along the glass, then they go into the sand at the bottom.. the others where grose blah.
I've only seen 3 but that's enough! haha

Mine come out when I feed my puffer, but I've been trying to just give him what he will eat and have little to nothing fall to the substrate. The tank I see them in used to have loads of fish in it, and so I had to feed a little heavier, but now it's just the one puffer and I think the worms are fretting that they aren't getting enough food, and I hope that causes them to die and they go away. I hate having stuff like that in my tank.

Same once when I was cleaning the tank out with them before, I sucked the syphon too hard and got the water in my mouth..
Then remembered the worms and was nearly sick :/

i had planaria in my snail tank and i couldnt get rid, drove me crazy

i did the same, sucked on the syphon!

in the end i had to tear my tank down, and replace the filter, cos thats were they were breeding.

i have no substrate

ive put a few guppies in my snail tank, they dont touch the eggs, or baby snails

they do eat any planaria tho, and any leftover food

that keep planaria at bay in my snail breeding tank

How about shrimp and guppies?

I heard Apple snails will eat them ... unfortunately the tank I have them in is my Fahaka tank, and somehow I don't think Obie will allow an Apple snail to cruise around eating planaria.

Haha I think your wormy eater would be dinner!
I don't have them in my puffer tank, just the ramshorn/cherry shrimp tank.
