Big tank is here. These guys agreed to move it to our basement for $10
I think they're crazy. That tank must weigh 500 lbs. And the stand is another 500 lbs.

This is SO much awesome. I actually suspect these guys will always be OK with each other - They were in a 72 bow together in the store, TONS of room, and were always very friendly. It's the oddest thing I've ever seen. Now that I have them in QT I guess there is a chance the bigger one is a sabo - but that doesn't make sense, they were caught and shipped together. The smaller of the two looks just like a bigger, older Shakespeare. The bigger one, however, is showing a great deal of spot combining on his back and head. It's making me wonder if one of the subtypes of familliar GSPs "turn into" sabos when they reach a certain size. That makes me wonder about the sabo's seeming tolerance of such a wide range of SG, though. Perhaps brackish water is needed for them to mature in a healthy way, but once fully mature they have much less need of the carbonates and trace minerals? It's really, really weird.

Having 3 mature GSP on hand to observe, I can easily see how Shakespeare could end up with the smaller one's patterns in a year or two's time, and easily see how the pattern of the smaller one could end up as the larger one, in another few years time. However, I can't see how Shakespeare's pattern could end up as the pattern on the larger puffer. If that makes no sense to you, it's more confusing to see in person. A -> B -> C makes perfect sense, however, A -> C does not compute.

These guys are set up RIGHT next to my computer so I can enjoy them as much as possible for the 16 or so hours I will have them. EVERY SINGLE time I wave at the tank, they run over and look at me.

They need to stop pushing the versatop off the lip of the tank though. These guys are POWERFUL.

I was actually wondering the same thing. It would make sense for a certain "type" of GSP to grow into a sabo. I know I've never seen a young Sabahensis and I can't think of anyone who has. Though they're not very common to begin with. I could see how one of my GSPs, "Nivens" could potentially grow into a Sabahensis, so I'm excited to see how he turns out as he grows.

I'm so excited for my poofers to get here. No one will talk to me right now as all I can talk about are puffers and fish tanks. haha.

I found out some parts of the sump aren't working and the whole thing is in pieces and I have no idea how to put it all together. So for now I'm going to cap off the pipes and figure it all out at a later date. For now I'll just put the filter from the 120 on there along with an AC 110.

What's the best way to cap off these pipes?

they have been sawed off.

You can't really because they are external.

You can try to take an exacto knife, go around the seal and unscrew them but you are left with a big hole. Being external that may make the problem worse.

If you are not using the sump for the time being... try to plug the down drain and seal that until you are ready

Yea, looks like it need some patching up. They sell "cap" fittings in home depot, just wrap them with some teflon tape and jam them into the openings.

I also hope you have something resembling interesting decor for the QT tank. All I have is a few coral pieces, and now that it's been a few hours and the gravel they are mouthing is yielding no snails, they seem bored.

I try to entertain them by waving and making faces at the tank, but they seem to be getting bored of that even faster than the gravel.

I've got buckets full of random decor I can throw in the QT tank for them.

Agree on capping from the inside, they really butchered the pipework at the back sawing it off. Makes me wonder how big the sump setup was on that thing.

Hannah send me pics, its one of those old, Irritating, crappy white sterile plastic kind. Very heavy duty, but little room for a skimmer and lower water capacity than you'd really like, you'd need to do a refugium external for sure if you wanted one. I suspect it wouldn't hold more than 30 gallons or so, and have no idea how much of that capacity could actually be filled. The bonus is it has an external HIGH flow pool/spa pump, rather than submersibles. Doesn't overheat the water in the summer like a stack of big submersible pumps would. As for noise, it could be better, but it's in the basement, and if they move and find it too loud for a livingroom, they can always install some kind of sound-deadening in the cabinet.

If it makes too much noise I wouldn't be able to set it up. The basement is kind of my boyfriend's hang out place, he's got a bar, pool table, projection screen, etc. So he'd be pretty angry if there was loud filter noises, haha. He's already irritated that the tank is taking up vital pool playing space.

My goal for the morning is to try to figure out the lighting for this tank. Of course it too is in pieces all over the place. :/
I'll have to wait for the boyfriend to get home from work to go to the store to get parts for capping up the holes. He's got the only car.

...of course every single wire has been cut and mangled. ugh.

So I'll have to use my light form the 100g until I can replace the stupid lighting.

A pool table, a bar, projector and a big fish tank. It doesnt get any better than that.
