Wouldn't that cause more problems as the pressure wouldn't be evenly spread across the black frame?

Ah, well I've got a problem too. The tank (25g) looks normal from the front as it is leaning forward, but when you look at it through the side the back of the tank is about 2" lower in water level...

I didn't actually think the angle would be a problem, as the weight is still being distributed onto the stand (in this case coffe table) which is completely flat. Guess I was wrong. C;

Looks like I've found a use for those door studs we have lying around... Haha

Shimming it will help. The force you are looking to achieve is a downward force on to all four corners and center if there is a center post. If you leave the tank, especially a large one, unlevel the force of the weight shifts to the side slightly. So, when you shim you want to shim under the corners only to get that straight down force.

I always shim under the stand - I've seen the plastic on a store tank crack from shimming the tank.

The stand has a flat bottom though. Shimming that would cause even more strain on the stand as the bottom board would be forced to bend.

Yeah, I should have been more clear on that. Shim the stand only! If you add shims to the tank you take away the support that the stand does give to the bottom of the tank.

If you are really worried about the stability of the stand, use VERY long, very carefully cut shims. You can easily make a shim that's only 1/4" in height two feet long if you cut carefully.
