The guy's a complete a$$ for even quoting that rule. What about a 10" Oscar???

I can assure you that the advice here is the best around. In fact it should be used to inform the many dummys working at the LFS(everywhere). All my LFS seem to think the same thing you quoted. Its BS and they want to sell ya. Trust the ppl here, they helped me save my puffers from bad advice I also got from WALMART/Meijer/ LFS and not a single person had any correct info. In fact I usually educate them from what Ive learned here. LOL. Do exactly what the forum peeps tell you. They will help you. Keep up the work and it will pay off, possibly being the most rewarding fish you've ever kept. They are soo much fun to watch and everyone here has an UnDying love for all pufers and other pets. Dont even bother with the stores unless you picking something up, thats it. Questions here are almost Immediately responded with educated answers from ppl who've kept fish their whole lives Good luck and Keep up the good work it is all worth it...

If someone is getting paid to sell you something, it's best to take everything they say as bullsh-- and do your own research.
It's almost better for the petstore if your fish die, because then you'll just have to go buy more fish to replace it. :[ Plus then they can tell you something's wrong with your water and sell you some useless chemicals, and oh, maybe your fish died because it didn't like the color of the gravel, better buy a new color, just in case you know. Yeah... best not to listen to them.
Where are you located? Have you tried looking for tanks on craigslist? And since it's getting warmer out there will be lots of garage sales soon, there are tons of people out there with tanks in their garage they're dying to get rid of ;]

But just a thought...

I am willing to bet that at least 8 times out of 10 they are dying to get rid of their expensive tank because at some point some fish store gave them bad advice....and now they just think that they are unable to keep fish alive...like it is their fault because the fish store employee told them it was...what do ya think?
