Minimum tank size recommended for these guys is 30g ea. Yours is a little under 59g (with no decor).

ah was wondering why you said keep 2 then as you have said tank is not big enough hmmmmmmmm going to have to take them to another fish shop home as they were put together as a group and do without now

Believe me--they aren't that attached to each other. You sound like a caring puffer owner & at least 2 of them will be better off with you.

I am more conservative than PP, I would opt for a singleton in a near-cubed tank. Asking for cohabitation without being able to get much distance between fish is too much for me..

GSPs do not require companionship, they are solitary as adults in the wild, as are many puffers. They also will be more interactive with their keeper when alone.

sadly today due to the replies i had telling me tank size was way out ect i was gutted to have to take my puffer fish back to a store where they can be re sold, totally gutted as not sure wither they will be worse off to be honest than they were with me, but fish or not i will not be cruel to any animal in any way...........

Shoulda kept one! Go back & get your favorite. I doubt they'll be sold together, if you were worried about splitting them up. I hope you instructed the shop on the proper care of them, so they don't all go to someone with a tank even smaller than yours.

I really hope you did keep one. Your tank size (40 uk gallons) is perfect for a singleton GSP.
