Would Algaway 5.4 by microbe-lift work?

Someone here used a product to control their algae and it killed their bacteria and the whole tank crashed killing the fish too.

There's better ways to solve a problem than with chemicals. Why does everyone want to add chemicals?

Try a 24 hr black out with no food. See if that helps at all.

Because I have tried every natural method I can think of, I'm an experienced fish keeper/seller who is all about going natural as far as treatments go.

Also it would be a bit more helpful if you knew what that killer chemical was instead of talking about the ominous chemical X that crashes tanks because chemicals are so bad. I would at least know what to avoid! My guess is that someone misused a chemical or just poured bleach in their tank and then complained about it. ( I work at a fish store...yes someone actually did that and asked what was wrong with the tank ) So yeah I guess that chemical would be bad.

No product I know of on the market would intentionally crash a tank. If you misuse a chemical then yes, it can end bad which is 1- why I prefer natural treatments and 2- Why I am trying to figure out the RIGHT chemical to use from people who KNOW about puffers and chemicals. Treating puffers and their tanks is not my forte.

been there done that. went 48 hrs even.

Both to be treated the same, both FW fish. If it were my tank, I'd keep doing WC & be patient.

I have no idea what the person used just thought I'd say that so you didn't go out and grab some random product. No need to jump all over me. Perhaps it would be more helpful if you provided all that information -in the beginning-.

I've got a zero nitrate reading before on a Salifert test that was out of date. My fault, not theirs.

I'd noticed that one the test components looked as though it had absorbed water but whatever the reason I was getting a zero reading on the Pacu tank which is never going to happen if the filters were working. Changed the test kit and got 40ppm nitrate...

If it is either of those species,the tank is still too small. Stunted ffsh are not as healthy as normal fish. A 20 gallon tank is still the minimum. Your fish, your call. Puffers do not visually outgrow their tanks, they just stop growing.

lol sorry. I had included that info the first two times I tried to post this thread. didn't mean to jump on you.
