WOW, that's expensive. I can't justify spending that much money on any fish, no matter how beautiful and rare - not when it's so expensive to care for them, and when there are so many other things that I have to put my money towards. Not to mention world poverty... Sometimes I feel guilty for the luxury of my tanks when people are dying. Then again, my tanks are very important to me, and animal care is so beneficial and therapeutic. I think that my animals are pretty important to my mental health when I'm stressed out over school and such.

I'd love a cross-river, though...

Same here, there are so many things to spend the $$ on rather than a "pretty, rare" fish that may or may not be its own special species and may or may not keep that special coloring.

thats exactly why i dont mind spending money on my fish... they are very theraputic... and for someone with high anxiety like myself, sometimes it takes a fish to calm me down... to me, its no different than spending 850 for a purebred yorkie or chihuahua or something... for me, fish are more theraputic than dogs... i dont really feel bad for having the luxury of my fishtanks, i dontate to 3 other animal foundations... which i would personally rather do over donating to humans because for the most part, its our fault those endangered animals are in jeopardy in the first place, so its our responsibility to make sure something is being done about it in order to reverse the effects.

Example: If you've ever bought a Nike product or an African diamond, or if you've ever bet on a horse race, you've harmed a person in some way. (Yes, horse-racing is a pretty corrupt business, and the jockeys live a hard life; many of them are anorexic; they are often severely underpaid.) And then there's zillions of other things, but the example of supporting unethical businesses is closer to home than, say, Rwanda.

i really dont feel bad for jokeys at all what so ever... is anyone holding a gun to their head? they dont have to have that life and im sure a lot of them are smarter than just being a horse rider... i do feel bad however for the horse they are riding, i dont believe anyone should hit their horse or any animal to make them physically exert themselves and run that hard i refuse to ever watch a horse race because i believe that is inhumaine... i really dont care about the riders, thats their fault, they chose that life

Jockeys can actually make a really good living. At the -local- track here there's one jockey who probably made a good 500k this -summer-. Not bad if you ask me. They're skilled professionals. Jockeys have it good, ask the stablehands about their jobs... Especially the female ones.

as much as i admire the taking of responsibility to help animals (or people, or anything else for that matter), how can one be so sure that the donated $$.$$ actually really benefits the intended recipients?

examples of supporting unethical businesses can be very close to home
for example, how many of you spend your money (on anything) at our favorite "discount department store" that sells sick & damaged fish, and flushes its returned tropical fish?
since i don't tend to trust organizations' handling of donated money, i try to focus on not supporting businesses that i feel are corrupt or unethical

hmm, youre right i guess, no one really knows wehre their money goes once its sent away in the mail... but i know exactly where it goes when i donate to my local no kill shelter either way, i dont care how they use the majority of it, if at least some my money goes to help even one endangered panda or leopard or whatever, im happy... i dont choose to be a scrooge when it comes to possibly helping an animal in need.... okay, back on track... the cross river is gorgeous, and im sure no one here will end up with one... which sucks... but its reality.
