I actually have a small date book that I keep track of how much salt I add to my tanks, and any treatments that I do, etc. It helps to keep a running diary of what you are doing to your tanks or tank, as the case may be. I find it helpful to be able to look back and check on something I've done last week or last month.

ok, so normally it says to add 1/2 cup for every gallon, and that should make it 1.02. I want 1.005, so I'm adding 1/2 cup for every 4 gallons. I'm just sort of completely guessing. This week I am driving to Monroe to get to a petstore that hopefully sells better hydromters, but mine doesnt measure below 1.02...
I know it is a little late but you can get one for cheap at your local beer/wine making shop . They are the floating glass type and not an instant read but do the job

How long ago did you start adding the salt? Read this. You probably disrupted the biofilter.

I did it like a year ago. When I first planned on getting a puffer. But at the time I planned on a GSP which are much more brackish, so my hydrometer worked fine. Then I had to lower the salinity after getting these guys instead and realising they require much lower salinity. So.... Yeah. I am not sure how much salt is in there now, just that it is under 1.013 and above 1

How long since you lowered the salt level?
Just add the same 1/2c per 4g that you've been using. If you read that link, you'll see why you can't change it now.

I put in another random one, I need to go to walmart later anyway, I'll pick up some more while I'm there. He did find the string attatched to the magnetic glass cleaner thingy and is swimming around it and through the loop it made

Another random what??? I have found a rough estimate is, a cup of salt/5g will raise the SG around .005.

Sorry, another random decoration. And thanks for that, I think I did ok then. I'll go soon and see if I can find the right hydrometer.... and tomorrow I might get more decorations
