Very interesting; thank you for the link. Does seem as though these fish need seawater to breed (though it's worth noting they're looking at sperm that's been shed when the fish was manipulated by hand, rather than while two fish were actually spawning naturally). The lack of reports of these fish in the sea remains troubling though. It should also be noted that simply because a fish spawns in the sea doesn't mean it lives its life there; catadromous fish such as eels do precisely this, dividing their life cycle into a a brackish/freshwater juvenile to adult stage and a marine spawning stage.

Quite possibly they're like figure 8s and thrive in a higher SG than they are typically found in in the wild.

Here's a little update. I rehomed the pleco and he seems to be doing well, I also added more plants to help fill the tank.

I am a little worried about the puffer though. Could I be adding stress by changing his environment so much in a short time? He has a bright yellow spot om his head and a white belly, but the rest of him is a yellow brownish color and not green. Is that normal? Will it change as he gets bigger? He is about 1 inch and the SG is at 1.008.

Also, what has a shell that is small enough to eat? I looked for snails but they were too big for him. So far I have been feeding him mysis shrimp, but he needs something with a shell right?
