Does that side of his face look different in any way? Is it swollen or discoloured ? It could just be something silly he's doing. How long has he been doing it? Has anything changed since he's started doing it?

Mine did that for a while when I got them then I went thru the ich/whitespot treatment for Puffers and had some gradual success. It was a ton of water changes and so then I asked my LFS about something and the owner recommended "aquari-Sol" a mild ick and protozoan preventative. I used it as follows and they stopped itching soon after. I have seen them do it once since not treating any more so Im not sure if it cured them but it did help. So Ill use it if needed but I hope they eventually just cures itself without chemicals b/c it's the best way. Their immune systems can eventually be strong enough to be immune. I still never found out what it was so I'm still curious to find out. By the way the stuff I mentioned was for freshwater and I used it in brackish and the owner of the LFS said it works for salt too. I think b/c it's a mild treatment safer for delicate species. Check it out if it gets worse. Bought "Aquari-Sol" in the USA.

No reason to use meds, especially if you aren't sure of the disease or if it's a mild case.
