Dog Faces are reef safe. But just to be sure, you don't want that many expensive corals in there.

dog faced puffers are NOT true reef safe fish they eat most inverts.

All of us we know that the factor personality plays important role in the most fishes particular however in puffer.

Studying 2 otherwise dog face In 2 different reef aquariums and i saw this phenomenon.

Tank 1-with soft and lps corals.

Dog face never it did not harass no coral or various inverts like(Sea urchins, hermits crab,cleaner shrimp,turbo snail and blue sea star)



Tank 2-with sps and lps coral

Dog face it made big damage in most lps corals.Never it did not harass sps corals.
It ate 2 cleaner shrimp but it was indeferent with hermits crab and turbo snail

If you are doing something in the wrasse family I have always been fond of Harlequin Tusks. Just tricky finding ones somtimes....very cool fish though one that should do well w' the puffers but not be overly aggressive/not get its butt stomped either.

wont be tricky to find one for me, i see them alot. i dont know what i want yet so hear are the fish i have considered.(125 gallon)
yellow tang, chevron tang, kole tang, harlequin tusk, picasso trigger, blue throat trigger, dog face puffer, or a regal angel. which ones wont be good with eachother? im not doing corals, a fowlr.

Tihsho, please help instead of telling us about your lfs. i may do a reef, but with cheap corals at first. i will probably do a dog face puffer, a blue throat trigger, a yellow tang, a kole tang, some kind of angel, a wrasse, a maroon clown or a pair, and a snowflake eel.

Anyways, were you considering all of these fish in one tank? Or those are ones you like and you're picking from them? Yellow Tangs are usually very hardy, especially if they're from Hawaii. Kole tangs are very neat (I have one in my reef) they go around eating algae, it looks like they're kissing every thing! They do tend to be less aggressive than other tangs.

Harlequin Tusks are beautiful too. I personally would go with a more aggressive tang than a Kole if I was housing a Tusk..perhaps the Yellow might be better?

i changed my mind on the tusk. i dont want a 100 dollar fish that isnt that hardy dieing on me. can i do both tangs?

It's always hit and miss mixing tangs..really depends on the individual..place the Kole in before the yellow for sure, as yellow tangs are far more aggressive.

i will be careful, im adding the kole first and it will be at least 2-3 inches before i add the yellow.

Actually I was stating over all. Just cause I happen to work at a LFS doesn't mean I am always refering to it when I say I see *whatever* for sale. I am not just concious about where I work. I do travel to other LFS to see what they carry and to get a range of knowledge of what areas carry what and what quality is.

In my experience of yellow tangs, I have only seen them passive unless it was attacking other yellow tangs. Some friends have kept Harlequin Tusks with groupers (panther and v-tails), baby snowflake morays, angels, and tomato clowns.lfs.

Tang + Tang usually = some kind of trouble. Even if they don't hurt each other it seems to make them edgy w' all the tank mates. I've heard it said that if you keep Tangs in odd numbers they do fine but I've not tested it personally. As far as yellow vs kole, the yellow tang is the most common tang but you are safer picking one (your favorite) than doubling up. A single large angel should do well in that mix. As long as the snowflake doesn't *think* he can fit any tank mates in his mouth he'll be fine. Sounds like it will be a nice looking tank when you are done...

That's so interesting, as my experience has led me to believe that Yellow tangs are quite aggressive... I guess it goes to show that it really depends on the fish...trial and (hopefully not) error.
