Uh-oh, then we're doing it wrong ;) We've got three dogs (my mom does).

I might be able to take one but I'm going to look at a larger tank this weekend and if I get that then I won't be having a small puffer tank.

Congrats on the fahaka decision, I'd love to have one of those one day. Good luck :)
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Acually .......Me and my wife have a lady coming today to interview us about becoming foster/trainers of dogs, for autistic children. Were pretty excited about it, We get to train the dog and foster it for about 18 months, then it goes to a family with autistic children. I have put off dogs, cause my last dog
dies at the age of 16, and it left to much of a whole in my heart, took me almost 5 years to heal, to the point of getting another dog.

Where are you located in Ontario?

if you have the option really go for a female. and place her with tank mates from the get go, might be lucky. :)
as for tank size try for a 180 gal as there only 4 inches deeper then a 150. and if yours gets to full size it would be able to turn around. ( I think most 150 is 18 deep?)
the extra tanks you have to get rid of would / could be converted to a sump filtration if you wanted to save money. plus a good place to store your live food.
congrats on making the decision. you wont regret it

That's wonderful! What a good cause :D

You know it'll be hard to let go of a dog after 18 months though too right? ;) However the dog will be going to help a young child so it's very different from death. Might be a hard lesson for your girls, could be a good one though. It is so hard to lose them but I can't imagine my life without a dog(s).

I'll PM you with my location. I'm actually headed to your city to look at this larger tank.

Well the interview went well, so well she offered us a dog right away, we are going to meet a 5 month old standard poddle, if he likes us and we like him
He will be coming home with us then :)

Having to give him up after 18 mos won't be that bad, he is not dead, he is going to a home, where he will be loved :) and we had a part in training him to be that friend for an atistic child :)

Were pretty excited :)

UPDATE!!! :)

Well my redeyes are gone :(, and flutter should be picking up my SAPs soon, So I am getting a fahaka :), I found a place 2 hours away that has some, I haven't decided yet if thats to far, the gas will prob be 40 bucks, then the price of the puffer...

I hope to find a smaller one, he/she will be going into my 55 GAL for now, then in a couple months I will upgrade to prob a 150 GAL.

To say I am excited is prob a HUGE understatment, I have a nice log deco, and plan on getting some nice fine stone for the bottom, then when he/she is a bit bigger I will get a nice cave. I will go with sand for His/Her 150 GAL, but not this tank.

If anyone has any advice, I would be grateful, I have to be honest I am a bit nervous about a fahaka, I hope I can take care if it?.

Thanks all

Don't rush things. I've made that mistake too many times. It's true for all fish. Make sure the setup is just the way you want it and fully cycled. You don't want to lose your dream fish because you didn't have the patience. Thats my advise from my experience.

Are you keeping his tank cycled?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Yep, I will keep some gupies in it as well, I am planning on adding a bunch of plants to help keep it stable, then I will remove them when I add the puffer.
The fish can be his/her first snack :)

but yeah i will contiune to run the tank.

Hey all,

Well I went out to pet smart today, picked up a nice big tree root :) and another filter for my 55 Gal, so I will running running two 60 Gal filters on it. I did have a question about sand?, what is the best to use, what's the diff between reg sand and live does it make a diff? and Can I use reef sand or not?

I also bought some java fern, Some mondo grass and a HUGE sword :)

I am having a hard time finding a fahaka in my area, I have phoned places up to 3 hours away from me with no luck.

I hope SAM/SAMSON will like his/her tank when he/she does get here :) This of course is a temp setup till I can save for my 150 Gal setup :)

Thanks

Don
