Well .... hard to find earthworms right now, so I'm just going to let "Orangey" have some time to see if he gets his appetite soon. My Baileyi will go on hunger-strike each time she's moved ... and as the lurker's don't need to eat every day, I'm not worried about Orangey not eating -- not yet anyway.

Here's some photos I thought I would show ... they aren't very good and in fact, most are blurry, but I suppose some is better than none.

I really must either get a new camera or learn how to take photos because I'm sick of taking loads, uploading them, and then finding out that they are too blurry or I got too close! Good thing we're in the age of digital cameras .... I'd be spending a ton of money just getting these stupid photos printed and then being very disappointed in them.

Blurry pictures are definitely better than none. Thanks for sharing. I love the colour that some of those guys have.

Well, day 3 of having Orangey, my big orange miurus puffer .... and he's still staying buried in the sand pretty much. He's not eaten any of the food I've offered him yet -- although that doesn't really worry me because my Baileyi will go without food for nearly a week sometimes, and I know that lurkers don't need food as often as other puffers do.
Yesterday I put 3 Endler guppies into Orangey's tank and he came up and out of the sand right quickly to see them, but so far, hasn't eaten them yet. He's been down in the sand most of the time, but that's pretty much normal because my other smaller one, whom I've decided to call "Biscuit", stays under the sand all day, only coming up at night.
I've not seen any of Orangey's poo yet, so not sure how things are there ... but hopefully he will remain in good condition and not have any health issues.
I took some photos of him when he was up and out of the sand, but haven't uploaded them to the pc yet, and hopefully they aren't blurry. I will try to get them on tomorrow.

Wow! I'm horribly jealous!!!! Am losing all the fish (incl George) at the end of the month, as you know, they technically belong to my now ex bf so he gets custody:-(

I'm working on my boss getting a tank and some dp's for the office

Maybe once I move I can get a tank and take one or more of your puffs off your hands

I think it's awful that you have to lose your puffer .... especially as it sounds like you were the one who took the most care of them. I hope you are able to get another puffer soon, when you're settled in that is.

He seems to stay buried most of the time, but he was out long enough for me to get these







I think he's finally eaten too, one of the guppies is missing, so that's a good thing. I was starting to get very worried about him, but maybe he's still settling in. He wasn't at the LFS all that long either, so he's been through alot the past month.

I came down this morning, turning on the lights on all the tanks, and I don't see Orangey! I had to turn on the big overhead light in the room to finally see where he had gotten to.

Same thing happened right after I got Punkster. Except I forgot she was a burrower. in looked all over the floor for her. I was panicked, on the phone with a non-fish person & she just happened to ask me if she was the kind of fish to bury herself (don't ask me how she might even think to ask something like that). I dug around in the sand & she popped out! I was sooooo relieved.

My other Congo, the small one (I've decided to call her "Biscuit"), now that one is really hard to find in the sand because the tank is littered with very tiny pebbles the same size as her eyes, and sometimes it takes me quite a while before I can actually see her. I try to look for the little pools that the gills make in the sand when she breathes. I've even called the husband into the room to see if he can find her. She's just the right colour for blending too.
I really must say that Congo's are quickly becoming one of my favourite puffers, and I suspect, if I had some other vacant tanks, that I'd have more Congo's. I finally disposed of the body of the red one that died. It's been in my freezer since it died. I just don't understand why I have no problems with these orange ones, but I get a red one and it's gone before I even have a chance to enjoy having it!! I would like to get another, but the price of them is silly and it's only that high just because of their colour. Is there that big of a difference in the price of the red ones in the US compared with another more common colour?
