How petty is denying someone a fish tank! I mean, I could see them saying nothing too huge in case it breaks and floods the person below you (if you even have someone below you) .... but to say you can't have 10 or 20 gallons, that really is getting a bit controlling.

I'd have to agree. Especially when the floors, walls, and ceilings are all cement The tank would only end up flooding me...

I'm -thinking- of doing two 10gals. One with a puffer and the other with a betta, some shrimp, and some snails. I want both to be planted and nice. Irrubesco's eat cherry shrimp right?

I never tried mine with cherry shrimp, but mine like the regular big shrimp (that people eat), so they probably would eat the cherry shrimp.

you live in a condo? there shouldn't be a strict policy on the size of tank you can have since you are in fact an "investor" and not in a rental unit (unless you are renting the condo from the owner who makes the rules). You should EASILY get by with a 30 gal+++ tank without any questions asked.

Even IF you are renting from the unit holder... no one will ask anything as the tank moves in. As to inspections.... if you are paying the condo fees nobody will do an inspection. If you are a rental unit.. you should only have 2 inspections: 1 at your enterance and 1 at your exit... they reserve the right to inspect every year but never do it.

Hmmm... I don't know then. I could possibly swing a larger thank. Tanks aren't too expensive but hoods are and that's the problem. Perhaps if I could keep a 20/30gal with no hood and I can rig up some sort of lighting system... I'll look into it. I wish Big Als had tank prices online.

There are other types of lids you could put on the tank, doesn't have to be a proper "hood with lights", I have several tanks with unconventional lids and lighting.

Do you have pictures of them? Or a site I should check out?

A guy on Ebay sells T5 lighting systems for pretty low prices... PM me--It's where I get all my lighting equipment.

No pictures, mainly I just wanted you to be aware that it doesn't have to be a proper "hood", as long as the fish can't jump out, that's the main thing. A couple of my tanks have those plastic lids, I think they are referred to as "condensation trays" (at least over here I think that's what they are called). I have glass over my 4-foot tank. Two of my tanks have hand-made aluminum lids that are quite nice, very lightweight too. Some of these options are much cheaper too!

So, I've been soaking my soil. I can't remember why it needs to be soaked. Anyone remember? I tested the ammonia after a week and it was 0.

Get two Dwarf puffer's will be fine in a 10 gal tank i wouldnt recommend anything else tbh

I read somewhere to soak it for 2 weeks to a month. I think it was something to do with bacteria and/or ammonia but I can't remember...
