WOW this wasn't mentioned in the "Risks to your Puffer" when I was reading this article. I agree with you PP, not worth it at all

It also isn't recommended to use on weak/sickly puffers. Especially ones already starved, due to not being able to eat from overgrown teeth. One of mine was very thin, took a long time to wake up from sedation & eventually died the next day.

I'm one of the people that has lost a fish to clove oil. An SAP, every time I trimmed its teeth, it took longer and longer to wake up. Each time I'd use a lower does of clove oil too. The last time, it just didn't wake up.
That was before MS222 was available to the general fishkeeping public.
I wouldn't hesitate to use clove oil in an emergency, but not for repetitive use, such as for SAP's that need their teeth trimmed every few months, even with a steady supply of snails.
