Well, day two and he's swimming around a bit, so I think this one will be OK. Now if I could only get him to notice frozen bloodworms...

I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong with the first one, and this is all I can come up with:

1. At the lfs, he was netted like a typical fish when he probably shouldn't have left the water. the lfs in Austin caught him in the tank with the bag.

2. The first time I didn't pour some tank water into the bag...I didn't think this was necessary because I got him locally and the water should be the same, but I'm not discounting it. With the second one I added some of my tank water to the bag and gave him 20 minutes before I added him to the tank.

3. The first lfs (not a box store) only orders fish in lots of 100-125, so quality may be iffy. The lfs I drove to in Austin only had a dozen of these guys, and while they are more expensive (plus the 80 mile drive) their stock seems to be better.

Anyways, if I can get this litlle bugger to eat I'm sure he'll be fine, and thanks to all for the feedback!

Go into your yard & see if you can find/dig some small earthworms. Be sure it's from an area no fertilizer was used though.

Alas, I live in an apartment, and they have groundskeepers that I have seen spraying, so that's out. I did go to Petco this morning, and they got new plants in, and new ramshorn snails with them. I threw a few into the tank with the DP, and a few in a clear .5G plastic box with an algae wafer. He doesn't seem to have noticed the snails yet, but I'll keep an eye out. No one sells live worms for fish here, but if need be I can make an emergency trip back to Austin. I just hate to get him hooked on live food when there may be times I cant get it.

Petco sells earthworms. They don't keep them on display, so you have to ask for them specifically.

Er wait... That might be Petsmart.

I'll give them a try today...he is swimming right by the snails. he seems more preoccupied looking out the front of the tank than looking around the tank itself.

Well, he swam right by the earthworm wriggling around on the gravel. Well, they say hunger is the best seasoning...

Lots of new puffs take forever to start eating. Have patience.

Well, at least the 8 ramshorn snails in the tank now will have some time to clean the algae unmolested.

I'll try frozen bloodworms in the cone again in a couple days.
