yep thats another worry!! i do have a couple of small cycled filters running in other tanks....but they defo wont b suitable for these babies. tiddles, my 1st baby dp ended up getting sucked into 1 of them and died :( and he was looooads bigger than these newborn 1s!!i did have a bit of a stocking over the bottom of that filter for a while aswell, but i found the filter didnt run very well with that on. is there anyway i can very quickly get a sponge filter cycled etc to use for them? by looks of it i can just leave them in the plastic container theyre in atm for a few days, but after that im gonna need 1.

Darn rachy, I've got a mature sponge filter, the only problem is that it's in my brackish tank, so not any good to you. Wish I could help. I have loads of filter sponges I could give you that are matured, but that's not going to help you any in regards to these babies. Sorry. :(

I read about clownfish breeding in a book... the author didn't cycle the tanks, she just treated with Prime and did small water changes when possible, and expected some losses due to ammonia. Maybe you could try this approach for a week or so while you run a sponge filter in the main tank? Um... have you posted on dwarfpuffers.com or PM'd Nick on here? I think he's bred them before...

It's just really annoying that they didn't tell you ahead of time that they planned on making babies.

well thanks anyways schismy!! was a nice thought :) x n nope i havent posted on there lilgreenpuffer, but have been reading the forum stuff :) i think ill try what u suggested, just treat the water theyre in for now and leave a sponge filter running in main tank. if they dont eat for the 1st few days, then they cant really make the water that dirty can they!! another thought...i might put them in net breeder thing, they dont look quite small enough 2 get thru the holes in the mesh so they should b safe in there :D
will try pm nick now, thanks for that :D x

quick update on the babies! :D 27 of the eggs have hatched now, and 2day ive found another 5 babies already hatched, and 4 more eggs in the tank :D i thought they would b harder to find, cos by all accounts ive read so far, they lay egs in moss etc. id say 90% of the eggs + babies ive found havent been hidden or anything, mostly just along the front of the tank, so i see them at feeding time etc.

That's really excellent, I envy you! Wish mine would do something like that, but having said that, I think the eggs would be eaten in the tank I have my DP's, so I guess it's silly to expect anything to happen.
But really great for you rachy! :D

ya never know tho, u might get lucky!! when i had the dps in smaller tank, they also bred in there....there was 3 dps, 6 bumblebee gobies, and 3 tiny bristlenose...tiddles managed 2 survive being eaten for quite a long time! when i see the size of the newborn 1s, he must of been at least a couple of months old :)

Maybe someone can give you a culture of banana worms or microworms? That's what I've fed my dp fry. Nothing cuter than those tiny babies zooming around.

That's great news about all your babies rachy, I hope they all survive, if they do, I might like to have some off of you, if you're looking to rehome any. My first puffers were DP's, and they will always have a special place in my heart, they are so cute ..... and yet so devious sometimes too! :D

If you get hatch mix/eggs and salt, you can make your own hatchery by putting them in a container of water with an airstone. That's what I do.
