I agree. I love fishing. When you see the look on their eyes when you pull the hook out sometimes, its heartbreaking.

I don't do the hook-pulling. I'll catch them, I'll eat them, but I'm too squeamish to pull the hook.

Its not that bad, you just have to make sure that their dorsal fin, which has spikes, is folded back, otherwise they can poke them in your hand and I think catfish can inject poison which makes it sting!

I saw a vid called: Earthlings. I haven't eaten mammals since--that was over 2 years ago. I feel really guilty eating poultry too but I have to get my protein somehow... Good for me, I hate the taste of fish (good for them too!). So all I eat is mostly chicken & shrimp.

I read not too long ago that even something as supposedly simple and low on the food chain as a crayfish can feel pain. If they can feel it, then it's not too unlikely that fish can feel it, too.
We homo sapiens are horribly and cruelly arrogant. We somehow got the idea that we know what goes on inside the mind of other creatures, and what their experience of living is like. In reality, we know next to nothing about the "being" of other life forms in this world, but since it's convenient for us to believe that a creature we're killing doesn't actually feel the knife slicing through its neck, we adopt this stance so we don't feel bad. I've been thinking for quite a while that I want to become a lacto-ovo vegetarian, because my gut tells me that if a creature tries to get away when you go to catch it, then perhaps it's best left alone to live its life out in peace - it obviously has a will to live, and how is its will to live less valid than my will to live? Because I say so? I don't think so. I work around animals of all sorts literally all day, and believe me (and as many of you already know) there is a lot more going on inside the mind of an animal than we even come close to suspecting, and I think it's a gross error to treat other living creatures with anything other than gentleness and respect.

I kill them before I pull out the hook, unless they're so small that I must release them. That way they will suffer less. I have no problems eating meat, but I am not able to kill animals other than fishes and blood sucking insects. If I step on a snail when out walking, I turn around and apologize for it. People must think I'm a loony (which I probably am).

I guess apologizing to a snail you've stepped on and crushed, doesn't help that poor thing very much...

I apologize to bugs, too... I hate stepping on them by accident... But sometimes I run out of patience with the ants on the windowsill.

I don't mind killing wasps, bees, but not honey bees or bumblebees, I like them, but I hate wasps. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em. When I accidentally kill something, I'll say whoops, sorry, but I won't make a big fuss over it. I can't see anyone not eating meat. Oh, its so good...

PP, you can get quality protein by mixing grains and beans, or by eating eggs and dairy products.

Well I'm glad to know it wasn't just me. It helps to have understanding people to talk with.
I'm not a vegetarian and I do eat meat. I kind of have lilgreenpuffers feelings about it. It's a fact of life.
I have my two ferrets, my cat, and my fish here at the apartment with me. Most days I definitely do prefer their company to other people. The cat's always willing to be a lap buddy and the ferrets are constantly amusing me with their antics. I find my fish soothing and I love watching Ratchet lose his shyness and begin to exhibit normal behaviors. Today he was blowing sand around in his tank looking for food, I was tickled. So yes my animals are incredibly important to me and I give my fish the same considerations I would my other animals.
I haven't been fishing in years but I only fish if I intend to eat it, the same with hunting.
Lilgreenpuffer....I just have to ask, do they really make an air conditioned litter box? Seriously? What will they come up with next. lol

I was about to ask the same question.
My view on it is a lot like lilgreen's. By that I mean: Its the food chain, If im stuck in my house, No food, No power etc. I have a fire place, And a wood burning stove in the other room, Back to back. If I had to I would cook whatever animal I could, To survive.
As far as im concerned, If we farm it, Il eat it.

I have absolutely no issues eating meat from an animal that had a happy life, was treated & butchered humanely. That's not gonna happen with resturaunt meats & I don't cook.

I hunt and fish to supplement our diet and ease the cost of food. I am also a tournament Small Mouth Bass and Musky fisherman. When I fish tournaments I use barbless hooks that don't tear on the way out and I don't keep the fish. I have no problem with killing my own food as long as it's done humanely and it is used. What bothers me is the way most slaughter houses treat their animals and people that go on "canned" hunts. Inhumane and killing for sport....

If you guys saw the movie I saw, you'd never eat "factory" meat again, I don't care how good you like it.
