Puffer questions

Snails are fairly easy to breed if you can get some. There is an article in the library about it. Check some local fish stores and see if they have any, most will just give them to you because they can be nuisances. If you have to buy them, they are pretty cheap.

Ive tried to feed mine canned clams not in the shell and they wont eat them how are you feed them clams? on a string? i want to try to feed them scallops i bet thyll love some sweet scallops yum yum num num.... just name mine too "chunk", "mouth", and "Sloth" lol

make sure the clams and scallops are raw. cooked ones have no nutrition left in them for the puffers. yeah dangling them on a string could work, or tie them to your filter so that they get bounced around in the water let out by your filter.

when u try to take pix take them from a distance and zoom in with you camera, as to not scare them away. mine arethe same way when i take pix im trying to get better ones to post here good luck cant wait to see them.

Hi everyone! i had no luck with the string lol he just looked at it like i was crazy so i only feed him clams in the shell raw and shelled shrimp. Also i have a question about blood worms i bought some and thrawed them out but he doesnt seem to want to eat those so how can i get him use to seeing them raw and red the only ones i got him to eat were dried blood worms any suggestions? I havent named mine yet can come up with a good one

Sounds like your doing well feeding him with a variety of options. I've never fed mine with freeze dried blood worms, just the straight frozen ones (which they love). But my question to you is how big is your puffer? Ive noticed the baby ones are MUCH harder to satisfy then the older ones.

Make sure that all the food you feed is not cooked, canned food is cooked and has a high sodium content plus all sorts of other chemicals. Raw clams, mussels, snails, shrimp are great foods. Blood worms and black worms are also good foods.

one thing I do do is Ill use a laser pointer to get them to eat what they missed lol Thanks for the response about only raw foods that helps and makes alot of sense>

Mine eats freezed dried ones from the top but he won't eat the frozen ones I don't know why. My puffer is about 4" long so he's pretty large he eats everything else but the frozen blood worms. As of this morning I named him chubbs! I'm excited and they don't like canned clams I would not feed them that stuff you can get two or three clams for 15 cents. That's how I have been getting mine a few each time and I havnt spent over 2 dollars yet.

Where are you geting the clams my LFS doesnt carry them. try the laser pointer to get him to try the frozen blood worms
