The author is reliable. I do not agree with him on many topics, but I see nothing wrong with the Malachite Green blurb, even though it does have some degree of toxicity which should not be ignored (death to inverts), and it does stain.

BTW, the toxicity is meantioned elsewhere on the same site:

And IMHO should have been repeated in the note from Scott H.
