I know. I would never risk it with fish, but at least it seems to have started the process.

I'm still waiting!! :notimpressed: The ammonia I add daily is always completely gone when I next test 12hrs or so later. The nitrite reading is still the highest reading & its day 21.
I have seen some beautiful GSPs at the same shop as last time, they have them in QT at the moment. Some are so tiny - maybe 3/4 of an inch - certainly the smallest I've seen. But all the sizes look really well, round & fat with white tummies & no damaged fins. I really don't want to miss out on this batch.
I even dreamt about getting one last night!
Hurry up nitrite bacteria - do your job!

You'll get there! It's like a hill, there is a point where everything gets better. Maybe if you tell the filter you'll hold your breath.....

IDK, it should only take 7-10 days for fishless cycling.

I guess its cos I had to use bottled bacteria, instead of the real thing. Thanks Dadof4 - onwards & upwards then!

Which bacteria you seed the tank with shouldn't matter. What bottle was it? Did you add enough ammonia to get the tank to 5ppm every day & then 1/2 that after seeing nitrite? Are you still adding that same amount?

Used Tetra Safestart. I followed the fishless cycling article, so yes, I initially added ammonia so that the reading was 5, then when I had a nitrite reading, I halved the amount of ammonia. I am still adding the same amount of ammonia & it gets "eaten up" every time really quickly. Is there something else I could be doing? LilGreenPuffer said that her nitrite reading stayed high for ages, until she did a big water change - should I be doing this now - especially as its now day 22.
