he was double bagged in bags from the fish store, with an oxygen tablet. then he was in a tiny box, and that box went into a bigger box surrounded with packing peanuts. he was in there really tight. i think it was just the stress, i put a tiny bit of melafix in there with him to help the stress but i guess it didnt.

Maybe he got chilled/overheated?
I'm so sorry about the little guy. It must have been so frustrating.

Check your heater? Could he be burning his lip when he's pacing? Wouldn't be a first to hear about a malfunctioning heater.

the temp in there is just fine, its between 80-82, is that too high? i even checked the levels they are all 0. not sure whats going on, ill keep using melafix tho until someone tells me to use something different! i guess i thought since i had a GSP as a teen and he lived FOREVER, these 2 would be fine, but my second time around isnt so easy. and the first time i had one, he lived in all freshwater, ate feeder fish, and didnt have a light. lol. i obviously had no clue what i was doing that young, but he had less issues than these last 2.

Water temp is OK, I'm wondering how hot the heater its self is actually getting. Is it going on the fritz and getting extremely hot to get the temp to where you want it?

It says in Pufferpedia that the temp should be between 73 & 80? Even if yours is 80, that is still high end of normal. Not that I know what problems that may cause - if any!

With a thermometer.
