Oddballs... elephant fish are really cool.

It's a 100G tank. If I had 200 Mbus, THAT would be a big tank. but 200 neons is nothing. I'm not sure on the final number, just guestimating. I don't know what oddball I want yet though. Any suggestions?

The Elephant nose are really cool but the few I've owned have been kind of fragile. Something to add to a Elephant nose tank would be a few African Butterfly Fish. They are beautiful and fun to try to breed http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ... catid=1593

I've got 2 old elephant noses. They've got to be about 19 by now.

Neons get up to an inch and a half. The inch-per-gallon rule actually works with these guys.

In terms of other oddballs, what about eels, upside-down catfish, ropefish, or knifefish? If you're willing to go brackish, mudskippers or archerfish would be sooooo cool.

Synodontis grow quite large & also have a large appetite for smaller fish. Mine ate all 30 neons I had in with him.

In terms of physical space, I don't think it would work. I can't see twenty neons in one of my 10gs, which is what 200/100g would be. And if it's planted, they'd be even more cramped. Maybe fifty, plus the oddball(s)?

I saw the most beautiful purple female betta at Wal-Mart the other day. If you're not adverse to Wal-Mart, and if your LFS has trouble finding the rarer ones, maybe you'd have some luck there.

PetSmart has all the nice ones.

If things with your hundred gallon are just feeling a little stale and you are into trying different ways to liven things up, I gotta tell you going for a planted tank with a big ole tank really keeps me entertained and I totally recommend it. It adds more interest for me because my aquascape is always evolving and there is a sick satisfaction I get when some new idea I have pays off. As time has gone on I have found that oddly enough, for me anyway, the care level doesnt impact the rewards, when my anubias blooms I'm thrilled and they're like the lowest maintenance plants in the tank. Just my two cents or whatever, but for me I found a tank of fish wasn't enough to keep me excited about and from reading the thread it seemed maybe we had that in common.

Interesting... can anybody suggest some super noob-friendly plants that are hard to kill? haha

Maybe I will go planted. I've never really had an empty, start-all-over tank before.

Water sprite is easy, Anubias is low light so that should be easy too.
