I though it highly unlikely too because the FW ICH shouldn't survive at all with the marine salt....Tossing ideas out there. I hate being stymied....

well in that case it isn't ich in either form... you cant get brackish whitespot... can you??

It's either freshwater whitespot, solved by raising salinity (where tolerable) or its saltwater ich which is solved by lowering salinity..

I have a refractometer. I think I still have the hydrometer also. I'll have to try that one. I'm about 99% sure that the refractometer is right. I've tested it several times. Once with ro/di water and twice with the calibration fluid.

Well everyone will probaly frown on this but I went to the extreme and I'm using super ich cure. No more slamming into the sand bed and spots are gone. I started out doing 1/4 dose every 30 minutes to make sure he would be ok. So far all is good. I really didn't want to do another 2-3 months of hypo. I'm so ready to get my rock back in the tank. Tomorrow is water change day then another treatment. I'll let you know how it goes.

what's in the ich cure? As you have a fish only i think that sort of treatment is fine, you should see the list of nasty chemicals that have gone in my tank to try and stop my flesh eating bug!

Ingredients: 3.6 mg Malachite Green and 60 mg Nitrofurazone per packet. One Packet treats 10 gallons. The tank is 156 gallons and the sump is 55 gallons.
I've used 19 packets for treatment. I wanted to use enough to treat the sump and tank. I hated to do it but I want this Ich gone.

This reminds me of something that happened at my job at the fish store. The brackish tank, SG 1.008, had ICH. Couldn't tell you if it was true ich or cryp, but, the fish all had spots and several were flashing. I eventually had to copper the tank, at that SG, changing salinity was not an option.

Well did a wc yesterday and his sg is now at 1.010 there's no thrashing and no spots.

malachite green is the main ingredient of what i used on my tank.. it's pretty evil, carcinogenic .... nasty, nasty stuff...

worked on my tank though, but scared the hell out of me every time I added it.

No it's not salt. I mix his water in a 55 gallon drum using a heater and a powerhead at least 4 days before the water change. That was a good thought.

I did another 50% water change last night. I didn't raise the sg because it hasn't been a full week yet. I'll do that on Sunday. Sg still holding at 1.010, no thrashing and no spots. The meds must have worked. Everyone still eating great, still begging and still happy.

Here's an update:
I've decided instead of trying to raise the sg by .002 each week, I would just stop using top off water and let the sg rise on it's on. The tank is a 156 gallons and the sump is a 55 gallon about half full. I've been checking the sg everyday. It has raised itself by .001-.002 in a week. We are now at 1.012. There has been no thrashing *knock on wood* and all is going well, best of all I don't see any spots on Elvis. Since this has seemed to be working so well I'll keep doing it.
