Does anyone have a large Mbu and can I see pix of it please

400L tanks are good but highly highly impracticl!!! i would say as long as they are in 8x2 or larger its acceptable!

I agree with Flash.dan 4000L(1000 gallon) tanks are great but a 8x2 footprint is big enough for quite a big mbu.They are large but they don't dart around and so do not need large spaces to maneuver.My 18"mbu Ziggy seems to like to swimming through holes created by the driftwood in his tank.What is most important is that the filtration is enough for the fish.This means a filter rated for a bigger system.

The moving is still in hand. Found out that Eurostar is a definate no, so the next option I'm looking into is flying him over. This will probably be the quickest route too. Just need to find out if its safer to fly him or to drive him however, but since he must have been flown to England in the first place I guess it must be don't suppose anyone knows anything about this? Will the pressure changes affect him?

I think I'm spending more time worrying over him than I am about moving to a new country myself! The things we do for pufferfish...

On another note, I've been trying to get a picture of Winston with both eyes looking the same way since I got him, and the other day I finally managed it! this is his ultimate cute begging look

I've been trying to get a pic like that to, I found a way to do it but my camera is soo crap. I hold a crab to the glass and Naboo's eye's face forward as he trys to grab it

I measured him today and he's 3inches from head to the end of his body and including the tail he's 3.5 inches long

Iris is moving their Mbu to a bigger tank when they've moved to Belgium
My Mbu Naboo is currently in a 55uk gallong tank but he's only 3inches so is fine in this tank. When he gets bigger he'll be getting a huuuuge 1200uk gallon tank

Do you guys really think 8x2 is good long term?(like, 5 or 6 years in) I was thinking in terms of turning comfort - even with puffer "helicopter" maneuverability, with a body length over 20", the tail on a Mbu would be nearly another ten inches, woudln't 3 feet be a bit more comfy, just to have margin? As you say, they are not "zoomy" fish, I was thinking 6x3 would be a better footprint even at the same gallonage.

If the fish were a trout I would agree with you.But while not a 'zoomy' fish mbu do like to swim quickly in a straight line,their body shape doesn't lend itself to quick u-turns.For me its yet to be seen how long Ziggy takes to reach maximum size.It has been my experince that large fish grow very fast when small until reaching sexual maturity,then slow to a crawl as they near max size.Already Ziggy has slowed and I sure will slow more as he passes 20".The 20" mbu with a 10" tail you discribe would be 4" over the stated max size of 26".Perhaps when Ziggy nears that he will go in my 8x4x3 but for now he is very happy in a 8x2x3.

I believe pufferpedia sizes are without tail fin included, I was using that math for a "typical" mbu figuring 5-6 years to reach that size, not a maxed out one. If that measurement does include tail, I'd have no concern, but I had thought it did not.

mines 8x4 cutiepie is in a 6x2 but shes only 6-7" at the mo... so yes i think bubba has more than enough turning and space

8x4 is certainly plenty, even if we had a jumbo Mbu who went to 30" long and had a 12" tail... With all that space, maybe in 5 years or so he will be that oversized.

My Mbu dwaine is only around 4-5" In length and currently in a 6x2x2 a 6x4x2 is ready and waiting. Thats gonna last me a good while.
