Very cool! The colors are this way because he's a little bit stressed out and still very young. My fahaka was just the same 2 months ago. It will change if you treat him right But I'm sure that is not going to be a problem.

He will get his stripes very soon, they become better and more beautiful every week.

I agree, he does look kind of Mbu'ish with those colors... hope you do have a Fahaka!

I hope not either, the biggest tank I have is a 125...

I'm pretty sure he is a Fahaka... when you look at him from the side he looks more Fahaka...

I will try and get some more pics up with some side shots...

Just did a small water change, mostly just to clean up after the little pig.... There were chewed up bits of krill all over in the gravel, and a few processed bits as well...

Before I did the 10G vac and covered the near 5G Evap off the top (didnt have the hood on for a few days) I did test the water.

No ITE's
No Ammo
Barely 5ppm ATE's

Between the Dr. Tims, and the plants the water is perfect and I have an awesome new addition to the family...

Diddy definitely does NOT LIKE THE SYPHON! He mostly stayed away, but when I was rinsing and filling the vials for the tests he did come flying up aggressively towards the commotion and got really close before backing off...


Gonna defrost his nightly krill and see if he has shrugged off the invasion yet... They way he eats I dont expect to have to break out the net..

Mbu's and Fahaka's are very similar in body shape, mine even has the same yellow stripe between his white belly and body.

It's only the stripes on a Fahaka and the maze pattern on a Mbu that's really different, they even have the same tails

oh and the eye colours different though

Adorable fish - one suggestion though - that sterilizer can handle the 350 or so GPH the mag 3 puts out, but pretty much just kills algae and bacterial blooms at that flow rate - you might want to put a splitter valve so you can push only, say 100gph through it - that will kill just about any water borne infection, including multicellular types.

I am considering some kind of a restriction for more exposure time.

I have a 57W on my other 125 for my piranhas with a 2600GPH pump but it also drives 3 5' heads so it gets good dwell for the power it puts out. The 18W on the puffer tank is going to be hanging off the back on a sled and doesn't have to drive a tall head so it has been in my mind to slow down the flow..
